Kindle or Nook???
I can get either a kindle or a nook because at this rate since I will have no room in my book shelves. The prob is that i also like physically going to a bookstore and physically holding a book and turning the pages, so I don't want to have to re-buy the books that I've already read just because it's in a different format. I guess that i could torrent the ones I've already read.... Please help

If you really are wanting a legit e-reader . . . Kindle is the winner hands down. Long lasting battery, no screen glare, easy on the eyes, etc. The Nook is just a tablet and not a very good e-reader.

I don't know anything about Nook, but we love our Kindle. The plug in for the charger broke, and I called Amazon about replacing it. I was off the phone within 5 minutes, and the new Kindle was at my door two days later. I was very impressed!

Why would you use the kindle to surf the web? Black and white tiny screen and impossible to navigate.

I like reading books as well, but I just don't have room for all the books that I have/want. Plus I tend to read several books at once and its a hassle to travel with 3-4 books rattling around.

I know what you mean though.

Don't get either, by doing so you are doing a disservice to yourself and humanity by facilitating the destruction of print media which can be shared and handed down to later generations. Keep books alive and selling, don't give corps anymore control over information and knowledge.

I would imagine so. I've honestly never turned on the wifi on my Kindle. Just plug it in and drag/drop the books.

the kindle fire does not have a black white tiny screen. its supposed be used for web browsing also. kindle fire is an android tablet.

the kindle fire vs the nook the kindle fire wins easily simply because you have the entire android market to play with.

i myself own a fire which i think its ok for reading and eeb browsing.but im definitley going to buy the ipad mjni for 300 when it comes out later this year.

No it can't. Constant bombardment of radiation from space will wipe it clean in time. Books can last hundreds of years. You can share books with others, hand it down to kids, leave it in a coffee shop for someone else to read. Publishing companies retain copyright, that's all they care about they hate books, they rather you use kindle. Then they can charge over and over again each time someone reads it and don't have expense of printing books. They don't want people sharing books and reading for free. You are helping destroy a good thing and giving more power to corps for sake of convenience by giving in to the kindle/nook push.

I have a Polly reader from 1913, paid $1 for it.

Slight yellowing, other than that it is in perfect condition.

Re: Kindle or Nook???
Depends on what you want OP.

E-ink -

I would never buy the Kindle because it's too proprietary.

I liked the Nook but I found it's square shape to be awkward to hold in my smallish hands.

I went with Sony. I like the shape and size. It's got a touch screen, a stylus and buttons - so you can take your pick of how to turn the page. It accepts pretty much any book format. Like everything about it. The one feature that I love is that it's public library compatible. So I can check out any ebooks that my library offers. The only thing I'm not fond of is the shiny frame.

And if you're going for color - get a tablet. The Kindle Fire and Nook Color are just underpowered tablets with all the downsides of using your phone or laptop for reading. For near the same price, you can get a full featured tablet and download the Kindle AND Nook apps...among many other book apps.

Re: Kindle or Nook???
The thing about the kindle is they like to exert control - like when they deleted all those books people had bought. Oops, sorry? Also, they don't allow you to loan the book you bought to your friends.

Kindle in conjunction with Instapaper is great for saving online content for reading offline (with just one click). Great for the commute.

I use the kindle browser to view my Evernote content, handy for shopping lists :)
