IT'S OFFICIAL THE NSA WORKS FOR THE 1% NOT THE REST OF US.

Re: NSA: Cybercrime is 'the greatest transfer of wealth in history'
I thought the greatest transfer of wealth in history was the super-rich looting gutting the middle classes of all the industrialized nations, selling off industrial capacity, and enriching themselves through casino pseudo-capitalism, rigged markets, etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1130777

That's the second greatest heist.

The first greatest was the replacement of real money with Federal Reserve Notes.
 Quoting: Daryl Dixon

Yes! You guys are so right- was gonna say that. And in fact I was initially thinking perhaps this guy was setting the stage for blaming the next financial crisis on mysterious cyber heists (that presumably weren't traced or documented). But, I think he's saying intellectual property and not finances were stolen, so maybe not. Yeah, cybercrime is a huge deal, but perhaps companies can just take sensitive computers off the larger internet. They can just set up intranets w/ perhaps a few extra computers w/ full internet access for research/email. Actually most people probably already have their own laptop, so could just use those in conjunction w/ intranet only comps at work. Obviously transferring files to customers and collaborators still would involve vulnerability, but at least it's not persistent.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9581681

Although I suppose that once thieves realized what computers to monitor they could just do that and snag info when it comes, and so maybe persistent exposure isn't that much worse. Perhaps it's sufficient to just monitor for intruders to a network and use multi factor authentication for file retrieval. Not sure how many small businesses use advanced protections. Here's an interesting document:

I think maybe a super fast drone fleet that could deliver physical media might have a market. Or you could just do it the old fashioned way and send someone on a flight to deliver the files.... more security but less convenience. But perhaps cheaper than collective billions spent on a police state.

This time I think the NSA is wrong, on it being the biggest transfer of wealth in history. I would say the biggest transfer of wealth was out of the pockets of working U.S. working Citizen, to the Federal Reserve since it has been in started here.

Well, but if the drone was carrying media from multiple sources you'd run into similar problems as a digital transfer. I'd probably want my own drone to send physical media.... complete w/ tracking so I'd know where it was at all times. And lots of security so the recipient would have to enter some codes to open the cargo bay and I'd be notified if any incorrect codes were entered and how many times. If incorrect codes were entered I'd be notified in real time and be able to communicate in real time w/ the person trying to access the cargo. If they failed to identify themselves properly I'd use the self destruct mechanism to destroy the intel and the thief. Ha ha, that might work.

Well, but I guess it would still be possible for people to hack the drone itself. I guess once you go digital, you're never truly secure. Hell, even if you delivered the media in person, you can get mugged on the way or something, so we'll have to just find the most secure methods.

Maybe this sentence should have been like this instead:

The deceitful bailouts of the useless banks/financial industry is tantamount to one of the greatest transfers of wealth in history and to one of the biggest crimes ever...

creating laws to provide freedom is like taxing out of poverty.

laws dont stop criminals, infact laws are designed to create criminals.

without a law there is no crime.
