Re: Am I democrat or republican?
Democrats perpetuate the liberal ideology and Republicans promote conservatism. Therefore, in order to get the most votes, both parties try to encompass as many voters as possible under their umbrella. So they have essentially just created an entire subset of ideologies that include just about everyone. In this way, they can get the largest amount of voters into believing that they share the same beliefs as the rest of the democrats or republicans.

If you absolutely have to put yourself under a label, your views would be more in-line with Paleoconservatism if you want to be a conservative. It would seem that you only really differ in that your an Athiest; but quite frankly that is the more "liberal" trait that you mentioned. Or if you want to be labeled more as a libertarian, rather than a conservative, you could be defined as a Minarchist. In the liberal school of thought, you would believe in what they call Individualism. So yeah, liberals/conservatives/whatever all have a subset of schools of thought that you could belong to.

Don't let it fool you, just call each issue as you see it and forget about which ideology it gets filed under. Realistically both parties have good ideas at times about certain issues, but also a whole host of bad ones to boot. Hope that helps.

Re: Am I democrat or republican?
I don't know if the OP is a democrat or republican. I do know that the OP, and everyone else, need to stop thinking in stupid terms like "conservative" and "liberal", though. I posted this in another thread I started, that no one responded to:

Notice how both Republicans AND Democrats are completely full of shit? Notice how either a left or right winger will take facts and data, and filter it through their stupid belief systems and political ideologies? If you are either a diehard Democrat OR a diehard Republican, you probably don't even know what in the fucking hell I'm talking about.

Here are some examples: A Conservative/Republican will NEVER admit to facts when it comes to environmental concerns. To a Conservative, no pollution is ever truly a bad thing, in fact, pollution doesn't even exist. And if it does, it's good, and we need more of it. Polluted rivers caused by factories and corporations? Pure speculation! Nonsense! What's pollution?

Of course, things like environmentalism/pollution doesn't even need to have ANYTHING to do with politics, but due to its association with left wing politics, a conservative will ALWAYS deny facts when it comes to this issue. That's just one example. Here's another:

A Democrat/Leftist/Liberal, will NEVER to admit facts when it comes to certain racial and immigration issues. To a leftist, no amount of immigration is ever enough. Too much immigration? Nonsense! There's not enough immigration! Society can't handle any more immigrants because the country is going bankrupt? Not true!

In fact, the immigrants don't even exist in the first place! In fact, race doesn't exist! (Except when white people are being "racist" of course, then race exists). Otherwise, race doesn't exist, unless a leftist is beating a white person over the head with the "racism" card.

Also, are immigrants causing crime? Not possible. No brown person has ever committed a crime, in the history of civilization, according to a leftist. Just another example of how leftists/Democrats filter facts and information through their stupid ideology.

These are some examples of how BOTH liberals and conservatives are completely full of shit, and will reject data, facts, logic, etc, whenever it suits them. This is why "liberals" and "conservatives" are meaningless labels and should be done away with. If you follow EITHER ideology, you are a simpleton and a moron.

Got anymore examples of how BOTH Republicans and Democrats will filter reality through their limited tunnel vision?
You are judged by the strength of your enemies.

I would suggest, instead of asking like we're guessing whether you are a Libra or Capricorn, you read the Democratic Platform and it's history, and the Republican platform and it's history. You are asking because you don't know what each stands for. Get those basics down before you look at Libertarian cuz they are all fucked up and confusing.

Well in my humble opinion nothing on that list is 'insulting or annoying'. And you are very fortunate that you can rely on 'solar' and have no need for public libraries. And there would be many more fatalities if we didn't have red lights, etc. in place. And who is in favor of killing boys overseas? But it is a fact of life that we need the military to serve and protect. Anyway . . . I can see that you are trying to find your way and asking questions is a good thing. Takes a while to figure out where you stand in this world today. peace

Thanks :)

Not to use you as an example, but the "we need to be protected by the military" thing. Isn't that more of a republican thing? Or is it just a patriotic thing? If I were voting with my money, the only military getting mine would be *possibly* the national guard, not the overseas occupation forces. Unfortunately I don't think they even draw a clear line between those any more.

Sadly it is our reality. If we didn't fund our military we'd be taken over in a heartbeat. But I am with you on your feelings about our 'occupation'.

By the way I gave you four stars for being so 'thoughtful'.

If we didnt fund our military we would be taken over in a heartbeat......

Who will take you over?
Why then would you fight wars in Afghanistan and Iraq? (not to defend USA me thinks.
And did you know how much money is going into the military complex? Even more this year then last year and they spend it on things like drones so they can kill innocent people.

So dont fool yourself on we need it or we would be taken over. You need it because you want to invade countries and play police in the world. And you need all kinds of new weapons with that and a shitload of money.

So, I've never bothered to take political sides because, well, I think it's a scam.

But if I were to choose a side, which would I be on?

I like guns.

I hate taxes.

I have nothing against abortion.

I like the idea of medical being available to all, but I would never fund the commercial life and money sucking mode of medicine in the US. Why pay extravagantly for people to stay ill?

I think government is way too big.

I think there are too many laws.

I think housing is a right, as is food.

I'd go for drug legalization. Pot doesn't give me a headache like beer does.

Other than keeping factories out of residential areas, I see no point in zoning laws, building permits, or fees..at all.

I do not think land should be taxed other than when it is purchased or sold.

I do not think government should be able to trespass on private property.

I think corporate lobbying in all of its forms should be illegal.

I would like the right to shoot anyone that comes through my door without knocking, no matter who they are.

I'm an atheist

I like the idea of free education, but I think the current university system is worthless, outdated, and a piece of crap; so I would rather not fund that form of education.

I think that illegal immigration should be abolished, but not by building bigger walls. I think that people should be allowed by the governments to pay taxes and participate in the country they are actually in, without having to go through ridiculous methods that force them to work under the table and become a strain to their host country. If the border authorities are as bad as they seem to be, I don't think we should be paying them. Obviously there has to be another way.

I think medical doctors should have their schooling subsidized and should be given a slightly better than living wage, not ridiculous pay. I want someone working on me that cares about working on me, not about a Lexis.

I think all television advertising, especially the stuff in programs that the government and corporations slip in, should be banned. If it's not good enough for people to learn about by word of mouth, they don't need to hear about it. If Hollywood can't afford to pay their actors after that, too bad, they're overpaid anyway. Like all good artists they should scrape by and live on the donations of those that appreciate their art.

I think people need to learn how to communicate and police themselves.

I think welfare should exist, but at the same time I think it creates an unhealthy dependency on government. So, what I would really like is for people to be given the opportunity to take care of themselves. Instead of food stamps offer garden space that will belong to that person but that they or their's must tend to. Instead of housing benefits, offer land and an axe, etc. If someone has to build their own home, they'll be invested in it...or they'll live under a tarp.

Taxes: When individuals pay their taxes I think they should be able to vote for what it goes for. If 13% of people in an area (regardless of how much they actually paid) decide they want their money to go to schools, then 13% of the money collected will go to schools.

Bureaucracy: forms that only allow certain input should not be allowed. Anyone that says "The computer won't let me" should be shot on site.

Old people: they're cute. I'm not going to let them starve.

So, what am I?
 Quoting: Candy Corn

"Libertarian Republicans represent a political faction within the Republican Party. They are strong believers in the traditional Republican principle of economic libertarianism that was advocated by past leaders such as Senator Barry Goldwater, 2008 and 2012 Presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul. Individuals who self-identify as libertarian Republicans do not necessarily share the same political beliefs across the spectrum, though there do seem to be several issues that bind them together, including beliefs in fiscal conservatism, personal responsibility, and personal liberty."

he's mostly espousing the libertarian platform however he's obviously too naive to realize what it means to say"right to food and housing" he prolly only says that for two reasons: 1. hes never had to pay taxes and 2. hes worried what other people think about him if he doesnt moderate his outlook with some touchy feely feelgood bullshit. peer pressure is conflicting with logic and hes experiencing cognitive dissonence

Re: Am I democrat or republican?
You almost sounded libertarian outside the fact you have progressive sounding tendencies (Food/Med as a right). Actually, that park makes you most def. not libertarian... errr, this is making my head hurt.

You'd be a Democrat. The older kind, not the modern post-hipster kind. You know, the ones that kicked off the progressive era without realizing the horrible consequences of it all? That kind minus an actual desire to kick off a horrible series of consequences with eugenics and all that crazy crap.

Hmmm or a Progressive Republican Commie Anarchist (I know it makes no sense just go w/it for now) that defies logic and desires property rights yet requires the destruction of the social fabric of society to take in account multiculturalism (which is never good) at the expense of other peoples natural rights in order to deliver goods and services to the needy because you feel it is a right for one to just "have" food and medicine ... lets pretend there are farmers and doctors who would be willing slaves and all that hoopla because that point is moot in this twisted version of a political ideology.

I think you should stick to being yourself. We could make all sorts of crazed labels to fit what you posted... the fact is, your all over the place and probably most independents are.

If you are either one by conscious choice you still have a lot to learn.

Re: Am I democrat or republican?

You are a liberal socialist as we would call it in Europe (liberal democratic party in the UK for example or D66 in the Netherlands).

But in the 2 party system of the US they are fairly underrepresented. You support libertarian parts which technically fall under republicans yet you support social security parts that fall under the democrats.

Simply put the whole 2 party system is retarded.
