A large tank grows fish which can be harvested for eating, and they in turn create a nutrient-rich water which is used to support the growth of vegetables, so you get the fish AND the vegetables for about twenty minutes of work a day. It is a very interesting concept, especially for urban applications. A used cargo container is a perfect pool to start with. I live in a rural area with a lot of shallow sweet water. Our main well is about 60m and produces 10.000 liters a day easily, supplying 4 houses, several big cisternas. We even have some springs in the neighborhood. Its a great concept even here, with all the fish on top and no fertilizer needed. We usually use sheep manure, very good. |
