[GRAPHIC] Russian Drug Epidemic "Krokodil" Turns It's Users into the Living Dead

As an opiate addict, I can tell you that most users do not choose to be addicts. Most don't CHOOSE to have their lives destroyed by drugs. It just happens. YOu can be prescribed a strong painkiller for a surgery, and have to be on it for a couple of months, and when you run out your body craves more, very very strongly. When alternative opiates are easily available, it's very easy to say to yourself, "Just this once, so I can stop feeling so bad for today at least."

Then you do it again the next day...

and it continues, until, like me, you are sitting in the midst of oblivion, waiting to just go... There's nothing left.

Did you not have a choice the 1st time you chose to do the drug???? The common public is well informed and well educated on the dangers of drugs. You are born with the sense of right and wrong..........so I do not agree with your statement of it NOT being a choice. The consequences of making a BAD CHOICE is becoming an addict and having your life destroyed...

I don't believe that ANYONE chooses addiction! who would do that? Drug use-sure, drug abuse-yep, but addiction, oh hell no. Nobody asks for that. People who use the phrase, "drug addict", especially when they use it as a negative, I just translate that to mean, "i am a dum dum", in my mind.

Funny thing is that being addicted to something is almost the complete OPPOSITE of choosing to do something, so yeah that person really was trying to be cute?

Nothing is wrong with me, but working in a hospital and seeing drug addicts come in, makes you a bit numb to certain things. There are enough things in this world, that can kill you, but you decide to take something that you know will eventually lead to your death, and you want me to feel pity? I feel pity and sympathize with people who get a disease that they didnt inflict on themselves. I sympathize with people who are abused one way or another. I sympathize for people who are pushed back into a corner, and are forced to do something, BUT I CANNOT sympathize with someone who willingly put themselves into that corner. NO ONE BUT THEMSELVES are making them smoke or inject them with that crap. Everyone's life is painful and has issues, but they dont inject themselves with something that is lethal because they cant deal.

I can honestly tell you that drug addiction is not a choice. I was prescribed benzodiazepines a few years back, and now I'm trying to wean myself off of them. It's the most difficult thing you can imagine. I've been to the hospital several times from seizures/complications from trying to wean myself off of this drug.

Also, alcoholism runs in my family and was an alcoholic for years. Whatever I did, I could not stop myself. I finally had to quit cold turkey because of liver complications, and the DT's were so horrible, I would not wish this on anyone.

If you truly know about drug addiction and have studied it and don't just make random statements because you haven't been through it, you have no right to say that it is a choice! It is not a choice.
