Space weather alerts literally off the chart X flare.
X flare has military scrambling, radio signals crossing channels and many beginning to complain of electromagnetic radiation illness.

This week's 5 day forecast in space will be a quite chilly -455º, which a 10% chance of a coronal mass ejection this weekend! Make sure you folks keep warm out there!

They said very little other than it was an x class and should hit in 1-3 days with the most likely result of northern lights and some radio disruption.

Read up on the Carrington event if i recall it came in 2 waves the first clearing the way for the more powerful second wave.

But i could be wrong. There are plenty of solar experts on this site, that i am sure will correct if i am wrong.

Re: Space weather alerts literally off the chart X flare.
From August 28, 1859, until September 2, numerous sunspots and solar flares were observed on the sun. Just before noon on September 1, the British astronomer Richard Carrington observed the largest flare,[3] which caused a massive coronal mass ejection (CME) to travel directly toward Earth, taking 17 hours. This is remarkable because such a journey normally takes three to four days. This second CME moved so quickly because the first one had cleared the way of the ambient solar wind plasma.

X-Class Solar Flare Causes Radio Outages

Thursday's flare has already caused what NOAA classifies as an R3 radio blackout, meaning GPS satellite signals "degraded for about an hour" and there was a "wide area blackout of high frequency radio communication" on Earth.

So far this is what happened.

Finally, solar protons accelerated by the blast are swarming around Earth. The radiation storm, in progress, ranks "S1" on NOAA space weather scales, which means it poses no serious threat to satellites or astronauts. This could change if the storm continues to intensify. Stay tuned.

The X5 that made a "glancing blow" was followed by the Japanese earthquake/tsunami. This one, though only 1.4, is a hit, palpable hit.
