When I found out where my recent ancestors were from (well, half of them), I went and had a cup of coffee in a shop in the middle of their region. I felt oddly at home and freaked out at the same time because one of the things that has kept me insulated from cultural struggles and taking sides is the fact that I never had roots. Sounds like the second half of the time when I decided that I was sick of having my handlers chosen for me, but instead of attempting to dump them, I replaced them with my own choice of handler. Not saying it's right or wrong, but the only way it worked for me was to find someone that would play the role of handler..give me that security/structure/I can't think of the word- I still craved, but that would do that while letting me create my own path. That one was a bitch to find BTW.
