It was captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory in the 304 Angstrom wavelength - a wavelength colorized most like the sun. There is also a coronal mass ejection associated with this flare. |

Quoting: subzero86  Mass deaths of millions of people.  Help me out here. Isn't the C,M,X scale for electromagnetic energy coming from flares? If so, isn't that completely different from a CME, which is actual particles from the sun? I have seen several posters saying, "Don't worry, only a X1.4." But wasn't that for the flare, not the CME? I don't really know that much about this shit. sometimes the size of the CME does not correlate directly to the size of the flare.... besides that, most X class flares have not been earth directed. this one CERTAINLY is. in addition to that our magnetosphere is weakening and more and more we are seeing evidence of the effects of that on earth. it could be nothing. it could be spectacular. it could bring problems to some communities....maybe worse. we'll just have to wait and find out! |
