If it were here 3600 years ago..how did some of the ancients survive it?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17629467

in freakin caves deep underground forget about trying to survive on the surface these peeps were already living in there any major type of civilization will be easily wiped out if this shit came true.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18375662

I asked the question cause people were saying it will be impossible to survive unless you are deep in sophisticated bunkers. But if it's true that it was here before then obviously you can survive with primitive means.

I dont believe the ancients were as primitive as pple think. There has been technologies discovered beyond what we are capable of today...government tries to make it seem like they were a bunch of monkeys but they are full of shit

A couple of weeks ago Nibirutards claimed a highly advanced race of aliens blew the planet up. Of course, it was a nice way to cover your asses when Nibiru turns out to be a no-show. Now, once again, we're threated by this imaginary object. Which is it, folks?

Nibiru would be easily spotted by amateur astronomers across the globe and yet nothing. I mean come on.

Anything planet sized anywhere near us would be visible if its a dark star we're one unlucky bastards because they don't last long and just happened to wander in?

I mean there's nothing supporting this claim other then just bunk, I give up on it.

Show me some fucking proof.

No they wouldn't if it was coming from the southern hemisphere. You would need something in space or at the south pole. The SPT wasn't built until 2007 and who knows exactly where they're looking. So that's one possible telescope in the world that amateurs have access to.

Wrong. Anyone anywhere in the southern hemisphere would be able to see it. You would NOT need to be in space or at the south pole. People in australia, new zealand, south america, etc would all see it as well.

um...

July 29, 2005: "It's definitely bigger than Pluto." So says Dr. Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology who announced today the discovery of a new planet in the outer solar system.

see captionThe planet, which hasn't been officially named yet, was found by Brown and colleagues using the Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory near San Diego. It is currently about 97 times farther from the sun than Earth, or 97 Astronomical Units (AU). For comparison, Pluto is 40 AU from the sun.

10th Planet

Posted 01.10.06
NOVA scienceNOW

In 2005, astronomer Mike Brown and his team at Caltech discovered a new planet out beyond Neptune. Slightly larger than Pluto, the new object was nicknamed Xena (after the TV show "Xena: The Warrior Princess"). But is Xena a planet? For that matter, is Pluto a planet? Brown’s discovery sparks a controversy over what exactly is meant by planethood.

That's now known as Eris and it's one of many such Kuiper belt objects. I just photographed one of them last night, Makemake. Eris was the catalyst for demoting pluto to dwarf planet status, otherwise we would have had to count every single dwarf planet as a full planet as well. At one time we actually did count every rock we found out there as a planet, and at one point under that criteria we had 18 planets.
[link to spaceweather.com]
Now we only count major planets that are both large enough to be spherical and have cleared the area of their orbit of debris. Neither Pluto nor Eris have done that.

And 150 years ago it was stated that Ceres and other asteroids were planets. So what? It's now classified as a dwarf planet. If we counted every dwarf planet as a planet, it wouldn't even be the 10th, it'd be 11th at best because Ceres was found first and orbits much closer. If we go by semi-major axis as ordering them, it'd be last making it the 13th.
so now it becomes a question of determining its current position from where it was in 2006.
 Quoting: AC

Again, stop the fear mongering, its orbit brings it nowhere near us and in fact it's the farthest of the known dwarf planets. We know its orbit fairly well thanks to pre-discovery images that go back to 1954.
