Quoting: Astromut That's now known as Eris and it's one of many such Kuiper belt objects. I just photographed one of them last night, Makemake. Eris was the catalyst for demoting pluto to dwarf planet status, otherwise we would have had to count every single dwarf planet as a full planet as well. At one time we actually did count every rock we found out there as a planet, and at one point under that criteria we had 18 planets. [link to spaceweather.com] Now we only count major planets that are both large enough to be spherical and have cleared the area of their orbit of debris. Neither Pluto nor Eris have done that. but it states it's a planet bigger than pluto in our solar system 6 years ago. plain and simple. And 150 years ago it was stated that Ceres and other asteroids were planets. So what? It's now classified as a dwarf planet. If we counted every dwarf planet as a planet, it wouldn't even be the 10th, it'd be 11th at best because Ceres was found first and orbits much closer. If we go by semi-major axis as ordering them, it'd be last making it the 13th. so now it becomes a question of determining its current position from where it was in 2006. Quoting: ACAgain, stop the fear mongering, its orbit brings it nowhere near us and in fact it's the farthest of the known dwarf planets. We know its orbit fairly well thanks to pre-discovery images that go back to 1954. again, Cal tech, NASA, JPL all contradict your message. Wrong. [link to www.nasa.gov] they say objects are common i belt, but not this large planet. they say they exactly. before i find it...want to provide its orbit. and not your opinion, as that seems questionable now. Quoting: ACYour behavior is completely uncalled for, you have no clue what you're talking about, and I already provided its orbit. If you're too clueless to know what to do with a set of orbital elements, given how you just slandered me I really don't feel compelled to help you. |

Ever hear of Noah? That was a documented regional flood. Actually, the documentation proves it was universal, not just regional. |

Just saying, don't come crying to me for a visualization of an orbit like the last guy did. I could go an extra mile and not only render a visualization of the orbit, but also observe Eris myself in order to compare against the orbital data and validate it. That's way more effort than I feel like giving to either of you. I can be quite resourceful and useful for getting data on things like this, but if you're going to slander me like that then forget about it. Last Edited by Astromut on 07/13/2012 08:57 PM |

Hope the sea doesn't come inland this far, but on the west side of fresno there are sea shells in the dirt, and gotta watch out for mammoth, long valley, and what else may arise..
