Does this sound like a good movie idea?
The main actor would be Ahmed. He has a collie named Harold. Ahmed dreams of going into space, but in his 31 years his life has set him on a path that does not include becoming an astronaut.

So Ahmed thinks that perhaps he could send his dog into space and super-glues a helmet cam directly on the doggy. He purchases 8,137 Estes model rocket kits and duct tapes them all together. After this, he builds a command module out of a B-17 ball turret. He uses caulking to make it airtight and he puts some sweet scuba gear and what-not inside of it. Basically it will be established that the command module can support life.

Anyway, Ahmed JB Welds the command module to the Estes rocket conglomeration. He also adds a heat resistant parachute system with an altitude sensor he bought on eBay. Then comes the big day.

He launches Harold into space without a hitch. Harold is in space for about 42.5 minutes and then comes back down to Earth. Parachute deploys and Harold is safe.

Ahmed begins to look at the helmet camera footage. It is super cool, but then he notices something weird. A space UFO shows up and the craft is taken inside. Then some grey aliens get Harold out of the command module. They seem to be curious about the ship. Then they try to remove Harold's cam but it is glued on and they can't get it off. They try to get Harold to do some tricks, but they can't talk.

In the background you see other UFOs. Harolds cam picks up people being led from smaller UFOs like zombies. The aliens give Harold some unusual translucent dog food. When Harold eats it he figures out he can talk.

He tells the aliens that they look strange. They seem to be telling him something. Then he replies, no, I am happy on Earth. Again the aliens gesture to him. He says, I am a little nervous about my ship being able to make the return trip, fellas. Then he says, ok thanks guys. Maybe sometime you can pick me up for playtime.

Then we see Harold's cam as he is put back inside his ship. A hatch opens, and Harold is already in Earth's atmosphere. His parachute deploys and he is safe. Then he sees Ahmed, and says, I really hate my fruitcake geekburger of an owner.

Appalled when he sees this footage, Ahmed yells for Harold and Harold shows up and tells Ahmed, leave me alone or they will abduct you.

THE END

Does Harold bite Ahmed at any point? I think Harold needs to bite his ass now and then as a display of contempt.

No. I am trying to make it without violence. It would be ironic if Ahmed bit Harold though....

Well I was trying to make a movie that could capture the audience of Space Buddies, Fire in the Sky, The Explorers, and Lassie all in one complete movie package.

I don't think this would be a very good movie. The story is not plausible.

I have to admit getting all of those Estes rockets to fire simultaneously would be difficult.

It's not just that. For one, why would a guy named Ahmed name his dog Harold?

Ahmed had a roommate who drowned in a cliff jumping accident when he was in college, his name was Harold.

Re: Does this sound like a good movie idea?
OK, fair enough. You have background to support this odd duo. But it's such a stupid idea. Even if you had the resources to film this, why would you want to? It is a dumb story. There is an infinite number of stories that would be vastly more entertaining than this drivel. Why not pursue something cool?

I think i may need to develop Ahmed's character a little more. Maybe I could show him sharing his ideas with his parents.

OK well I got it all polished. I think a big barrier I am going to have will be trying to afford a tone of Estes rockets. Maybe I will just use some CGI.

I ran the math for those of you who have been following this thread. It is going to cost $874,312.54 for me to make the film. I have about $212.14 to allot for the project. So, I am not going to make the film.
