When you tax something, you create LESS of it, therefore fewer real estate transactions will occur. Thus, the people down the food chain who rely on real estate transactions for their livelihoods will be negatively impacted the most, not the wealthy. As is the case with ALL redistributionist policies, the sum economic impact of a real estate transaction is never accounted for, only the part that satisfies the class-envy peons that have been conditioned to think confiscating the wealth of others somehow benefits them. And we wonder why the middle class is shrinking, when it must support an ever-expanding bureaucracy and an ever-expanding parasite class below.

This tax will impact senior citizens who have owned their homes for several decades, especially family farms. Yes, they will surpass the capital gains threshold and be taxed the 3.8% EVEN THOUGH THE ONLY THING THAT WILL QUALIFY THEM AS "WEALTHY" IS THAT ONE SINGLE TRANSACTION. They may be on fixed incomes otherwise.

Having this in place MIGHT stop idiots from trying to have multiple homes. You only need one, and that is the one you live in. Of course, this type of thing even encourages renting even more so. Who is going to front paying the 3.8%, the buyer or the seller?

This is really important! In addition, those who might get foreclosed on, or otherwise sell at a loss will be charged the 3.8% tax on the GROSS proceeds. This is patently unfair, and applies to business property as well, so it may be a better business decision to trash the property, or even abandon it with the lowest possible residual value.

When observed from a sufficiently broad view, the entire Obama administration policy seems to be that of destroying infrastructure and the value of everything within the USA.

I won't be using obamascare for anything - I have too much personal integrity for that.

Dunno, last I noticed owning several properties and buying and selling properties is pretty wealthy to me.
