Don't go back.

God is everywhere.

i think so too, i want to go to church i just dont want to feel like i HAVE to go. thats why i hated going when i was little
 Quoting: Doomcookie

I was raised catholic. I recently had a conversation with my mom about Catholicism. When she was eight she was hospitalized with a mastoid. She missed six weeks of church. Upon her returning the priest told her she was going to go to hell for missing mass. I kid you not. Lifelong guilt. Who are these men?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18589343

woah thats crazy. i grew up a catholic too. im a female in my 20s and shes one of my peers. it wasnt any of the leaders in church they were nice, its just this one girl that says she has visions from the holy spirit and thats what she came up with. i can only assume it was because i missed for a month

That depends on whether ones god is the one mentioned in the bible. The god of the holy bible does require certain things of 'his people'... you know... the instructions of Christ.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15041895

Actually No He doesn't. May I suggest you read
[link to www.humanitysteam.ru] to hear Him tell you exactly How it is.hf
 Quoting: Seeker of Truth

I'm talking about the god of the bible, not the god of 'Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walshe'. The god of the bible does give plenty of instructions to 'his people', including many instructions which are grammatically in imperative mood, and also include statements in the NT such as "And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it."

Obviously the god of the holy bible has instructions he gives to 'his people', and expects them to follow. You know... tell the truth, don't murder people, don't lie about his word, etc.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15041895

but if one is that into is.... not going to church morally wrong?
 Quoting: Doomcookie

The word Church in the bible is ekklesia, which simply means those 'called out'.

According to scripture, christians are supposed to associate with likeminded believers for the purpose of encouraging and teaching one another (remember, in the first century, christians were being chased and murdered in mass, and needed the support of one another). This was called the 'love feast'.

The assemblies of today operate nothing like those of the first century, and are actually Pagan in origin... check out a book titled 'Pagan Christianity: Exploring the roots of our church practices' ( [link to www.amazon.com] ) which outlines these facts.

Re: i missed church a few times and this is what happens when i go back
The five steps to being a modern christian.

1)First ya have to say a sinners prayer.

2)Then you have to go to church three times a week(At least)..each time giving ten percent of whats in your wallet to the fat dude up the front who drives luxury cars and lives in a mansion.

3)Then you have to learn to hate everyone else thats NOT a fundie seeing them as doomed and not worth your trouble to love or help or feed..as ALL your time and money gets dedicated to the fat greedy pastor up the front..

4)After a while you have to learn to HATE all other fundies or denominations with a PASSION and see THEM as wrong and DOOMED as well..if they so much as disagree with your denominations view on what day to worship..or what to eat..or the rapture debate..or even if adam had a belly button. (Ive seen churches coime apart over this..seriously)

5)You also must LOOK like the world...dress like the world..act like the world...set your church up to look like a rock concert hall..and fornicate and divorce and sleep around with all the women in the church..all the while condemning others of the world who do this. In short..you have to be as CLOSE as possible to what the world IS..but EXCUSE all your "Sins" with the "Im not perfect..just forgiven CRAP"

After doing all of this..THEN..you just might..according to THEM..be worthy of heaven.

i get a text from someone from church saying someone had a vision of me that says that God is telling me to choose who i am going to serve before its too late choose salvation or destruction and if i choose God i have to surrender completely to God for there should be no confusion or pain. the irony is that even though i was missing church i felt more connected to God. i had a lot of good luck in my life i didnt go because i felt like i didnt need to. i go back and instead of feeling love theyre trying to scare me. or am i wrong?
 Quoting: Doomcookie

I think they mistake themselves for God, which would be blasphemy, dear.

I am not going to a church right now, but I believe I have a very close relationship with God.

Choosing a church family's way does not equate choosing God's way. It's unfortunate that many church families are not necessarily healthy families. I think God knows that. For some of us who have unhealthy psychological issues from the past, it is safer not to stay involved with a physical church group.

I understand what you are feeling and I'm sorry you are going through it.

OP, when anyone tells you that you 'must' surrender without question to anything at all, what they really mean is that you should surrender to them and what they want. There are no exceptions; it's true in every case. Always run from anybody who wants to deprive you of your own choice about how you spend your time.

Re: i missed church a few times and this is what happens when i go back
I read a really good book once about being a spritual person vs a organized church goer. It said in a nutshell that most of us tend to think of the regular church goers as having the inside track on all things spritual, but we should really look at the church as a sort of hospital for the spritually sick and weak. Its good to go every once in awhile to get a tune up, but there is nothing wrong with seeking God outside of a building for long periods of time.

I know where you are coming from. I was forced to attend Catholic church as a child and being forced to subscribe to a set and rigid belief system by these individuals and church-goers that I did not personally know - it NEVER resonated with me. By age 13 I finally convinced my parents to stop forcing me to attend and I never looked back. I was a well-behaved kid with good manners and a sense of integrity but no part of being indoctrinated at a formal church ever felt 'right' to me.

Ask yourself, what if it's your intuition urging you to stop attending? Why should you feel 'fear' over this and what about these circumstances would encourage others to spread 'fear' if you were to stop partaking? Think about that.

I'm still having some difficulty understanding why you feel compelled to go and 'worship'. Is there an underlying fear of rejection by some of your relatives or other important people in your life? There is absolutely nothing wrong with your feelings on this subject matter. If anything it's the people who would JUDGE you over this that need to change their way of thinking and not you.

I'm just gonna say one thing here.....some may disagree or think this is wrong, but consider this. Do you believe our relationship to God is personal? If so......why would it matter HOW we formed that relationship? Why would it matter if we went to church on Sundays or what churches we went to at that? Why would it matter if we believed in Jesus, or if we believed the Bible or any type of dogmatic belief system?

Personal means exactly that, PERSONAL. If you have to believe as someone else does, it ceases to be personal anymore.

Just my two cents here.......take them as you will.

Always remember, ultimately, to never follow any person's belief. Your relationship with God is between you and God.

Have you stopped to consider that it wasn't the NAME that saved you, but rather that you prayed at all?? That you could have used any other name as an attempt to reach God and you would have STILL been heard? We put so much emphasis on names, WHAT we call God, when in reality it makes no difference. People of all cultures and faiths experience healings and positive vibes through prayer, are they all wrong except for one in how they do it?? No they're not.

It's not about the name.....it's that we reach out at all that matters. It's the entire reason why if someone looks for God they will find it, no matter WHAT place they look. God is there for all, not just for some, and if you seek it you WILL find it.
