Ex 20:20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. Ps 111:10 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do [his commandments]: his praise endureth for ever. Ps 51:17 The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. The "beating" is effectively a rebuke. Without God rebuking, we will continue to live a life displeasing to him and he will be forced to destroy us... Which do you want? A mere mercy beating to soften your rebellious heart, or God's absolute fury and anger? And if God does not "beat" you and cause you to repent of your sin, then for you there is no hope because he hates you and you do not belong to him. Hb 12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Hb 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. I'm sorry, whoever you are, there is no way around this. God is good when he is merciful enough to rebuke us for our sin so we do not continue down that path, instead of making us to continue wandering down that path which is sure to anger him. The beating we receive is far less than we deserve: Ezr 9:13 And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities [deserve], and hast given us [such] deliverance as this; Ezr 9:14 Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed [us], so that [there should be] no remnant nor escaping? |
