That is because our guys usually only have a shoe string, toilet roll, some sticky tape and a blue peter badge to play with..

On a more serious note, it is because we seem to be frequently more involved in what the Americans are up to than developing stuff on our own.

The first jet to go supersonic was American Bell X-1 but could only do so with the tail from the British Miles M.52, but like most things that information sharing agreement seemed to go one way, with Britain sharing and America with holding..

So perhaps we are more secretive now? or managed to gain some decent information sharing agreements?
