Police knock on door but do announce they are police...

Guy inside house grabs gun...

Rather than looking out a window to see who it might be (all the cop cars outside the house and deputies on his front porch would have been pretty obvious) he opens the door and point the gun at those on the porch...

Gets shot.

If someone is knocking on my door at 1:30 am I'd answer it with gun in hand as well. But, I'd be checking the peep-hole first before I ever opened the door.

Either way it's the cops fault for not announcing who they were. Criminal charges should be filed.

There was no murder. It was self defense.

You make a wrong turn and go down the wrong alley, and man points a gun at you because you don't 'belong' there.

You have a weapon locked and loaded. What would you do?

Blast the shit out of him.

It's self defense regardless of whether it was the right house or not. May the best man win.

If he had better tactical skills with his weapon, there would be two dead cops and it would have been a clear cut case of self defense.

Neither party is really at fault here except for the intelligence gatherers who gave the wrong address. It was just an unfortunate mistake.
