Chinese Athletes not basing themselves in London for the Olympics [link to www.bbc.co.uk] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19506634 The excuse they are coming up with is that London is too cold and wet, but is Germany that much better weather-wise? Surely, if they were worried about the cold and wet, Spain or Portugal would have been a better choice. I'm thinking that the Chinese might know that something will happen in London, during the Games, and are staying the hell away. "Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang is to avoid London's "wet and cold" weather until he competes at the Olympic Games, his coach says" "Other Chinese teams have also chosen to move their base thanks to London's cold weather, so Liu Xiang is not the only one," Mr Sun was quoted as saying by the China Daily. Nice catch OP!!! Another Olympic mega star, the high-jump athlete Blanca Vlasic quit attending the London Olympics in the last minute. for a PIN. "Do or do not. There is no try." (Yoda) |

The funny part is that they thought about moving to Leeds before deciding on Germany. If they think London is cold and wet, then Leeds, in the North of England, is going to be worse than London. Nothing seems to add up about their story. |

I bet more athletes will quit the Olympics as it approaches the opening ceremony. Just watch it. "Do or do not. There is no try." (Yoda) |

That would be novel to the Chinese Seriously though, I think the whole G4S security fiasco was on purpose to justify drafting in so many troops. Everybody knows something is going down during the olympics and the smart ones are taking precautions. |

With as much militarized force as they have going on for the Olympics, it is going to invent its own trouble if none can be found for it. I'm staying away too in all honesty. |

Maybe. The Chinese seem to be always in the know, the mix and never held accountable. Thank Bill and Hillary for the ascendancy of China. Behind every myth lies a mystery, and every legend holds an echo of the truth …… Que Sera Sera "For not by numbers of men nor by measure of body but by valor of soul is war decided" Bilisarius " At the siege of Vienna in 1683 Islam seemed poised to overrun Christian Europe. We are in a new phase of a very old war." Gates of Vienna. Missile launchers on the roofs of buildings is OTT. It's like they're expecting an invasion or something. I live 70 miles outside of London and I still think I'm too close. I have many friends in London and hope everyone is going to be OK. |

Chinese Athletes not basing themselves in London for the Olympics Usually the competing athletes will actively spend more training in the place of an upcoming competition, especially if the location's climate varies from their own. It only makes sense that if the concern was truly about a climate they are not accustomed to, then they would be spending more time training there in preparation rather than avoiding it. This story just doesn't add up, IMHO "Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow". ~Aesop "Once in a dream I saw a snake swallowing its own tail, it swallowed and swallowed until it got halfway round, and there it stopped and there it stayed, it was stuffed with its own self. Some fix, that. We only have ourselves to go on, and it’s enough…" -Charles Bukowski "Grasping at things can only yield one of two results: Either the thing you are grasping at disappears, or you yourself disappear. It is only a matter of which occurs first." -Goenka |

Chinese Athletes not basing themselves in London for the Olympics I think the idea was to make it a normal feature of large hi-rise buildings. On the surface it doesn't sound too clever to put large and heavy missiles on civilian architecture because it seems rather vulnerable. I mean I doubt the apartment buildings were designed for extremely heavy things to be parked on the rooves, and a real attacker would surely just blow up the apartment building or at least knock out a few support columns. But then I don't know squat. |
