4.3 Telolapan, Guerrero, Mexico, 10:57am (central time)

It was not that big of a quake for me and it was in a rural region, but it took 15 minutes before it appeared on the Mexico UNAM site ( [link to www2.ssn.unam.mx]

And for me, now over 20 minutes after the tremor it still has not appeared on the Live Earthquakes (USGS feed) site ( [link to quakes.globalincidentmap.com] and they show all quakes down to magnitude 1.

The USGS and other data sources don't even need to rely on Mexican seismometers to determine time magnitude and location as far as I know.

So what gives with these data sites anyhow?

I dont think there are any DUMBS being built here of all places.

From this and other things I have heard, I suspect that USGS is fucked up as a source of seismic data.

I am about 50 miles or 70km from the epicenter, and I have felt many earthquakes throughout my life here and in California, often with my dad, a gooberment geologist, and I would guess by the level of intensity (not real intense), and duration (maybe 10 or 15 seconds tops) that yeah, it was something like a 4.3 at 50 miles distance.

But why do USGS and world data sources not show a 4.3?

It's now one hour after an unreported 4.3.

Do you know where your earthquake is?

Haven't we heard other cases of unreported earthquakes?

Like one near Denver, and the US east coast, and the Canary Islands?

Thanks, at least someone knows.

Are there any sites that you-all see other than the Mexico sites which show this data?

Finally posted to USGS a few hours later.

Someone in NZ said that this goes on quite a lot there too and gave me a link to their independent data - [link to www.geonet.org.nz]

I believe that USGS is constantly downgrading EQs.
On another forum, I commented on this and a poster who claimed to work for the USGS said:

"Does it ever occur to you that some of us who work at USGS do not like or approve of this practice either?"

I thanked him and said I was glad there were still some people with integrity on the planet.

Perhaps they check things out before they print them. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe they could have a raw data page.
