Nine's User ID: 12109328 United States 07/17/2012 08:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | “The price of the grain used in food for people and livestock is surging at a time when retail-meat costs already are near record highs. Global food prices are poised to rebound from a 21-month low in June because of weaker-than-expected supply in the U.S., the world’s largest corn exporter, the United Nations said July 5. With forecasters including AccuWeather Inc. predicting worsening conditions in the next month, corn traded in Chicago surged by $2.7875 a bushel since mid-June, or 55 percent. The rally is adding to pressure on the livestock industry because cattle feedlots are already losing as much as $200 an animal. Sanderson Farms Inc., the third-largest U.S. poultry producer, said every 10-cent corn increase boosts costs by $2.21 million.” [link to www.mnn.com] |

Going to affect everyone. FORT SMITH, Ark. - The drought has caused corn prices to increase by 40 percent, resulting in higher grocery prices. 40/29 News' Brett Rains talked to an agriculturalist who said everyone will start feeling the pinch in their pocketbooks soon. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9107938 Any other ideas on what we should be buying now???? If you do like red meat, buy and freeze NOW. Omaha Steaks has those great individually wrapped steaks, chops and chicken breasts. You can get a nice package for about $50. But, not for long... Also, look for range fed beef instead of corn fed, that will be a bit cheaper and you can mail order. |
