Ron Paul to confront Fed Chair Ben Bernanke: Will there be fireworks? Update: Bernanke slams Ron Paul's Fed audit bill
On Wednesday, July 18, Congressman Ron Paul will have his last chance to take apart Fed Chair Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, when Bernanke delivers his semi-annual report on the nation’s monetary policy.

The Fed Chair will be testifying before the House Financial Services Committee, on which Paul sits. The last time there was a face-off between the two men was in February of this year, when Paul delivered a diatribe about the Fed devaluing the dollar while waving a silver eagle dollar at Bernanke.

Bernanke kept his cool and when finally allowed to speak, simply and sardonically said to the Congressman, “First of all, nice to see you again.”

Congressman Paul, who aspired to be President during the Republican primary and basically ran on the gold standard, is retiring in November after 24 years in Congress as the maverick Libertarian, though registered Republican. He has spent most of that time lambasting the Federal Reserve, which he wants abolished and if not that, then greater oversight of the Fed instituted.

During the campaign, Paul indicted the Fed of “creating money out of thin air, manipulating interest rates, and interfering with the free market,” blaming the Federal Reserve for its role in the latest financial melt down.

"And I know that when I leave savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard. We are not the wolves at the gate, we are the ones who face them."

Oh how dare the people question the mighty mighty Federal reserve. Bernanke has a God complex.

I just hope when RP retires, there is someone(s) to carry on with his message regarding The Fed.

Re: Ron Paul to confront Fed Chair Ben Bernanke: Will there be fireworks? Update: Bernanke slams Ron Paul's Fed audit bill
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Wednesday rebutted Republican lawmakers pushing a bill that would give Congress the ability to review monetary policy decisions, saying it could compromise central bank independence.

The hearing was the likely last chance for retiring Texas Representative Ron Paul, known for proposing the Fed should be abolished, to grill the central bank chairman.

"Trillions and trillions of dollars (are) being printed out of thin air," said Paul.

The Republican-controlled House is on track to take up Paul's Fed audit legislation next week. The bill, which has been co-sponsored by more than half of all House members, looks set to clear that chamber, but not the Senate.

Paul's bill would direct the Government Accountability Office, an independent, nonpartisan congressional agency, to conduct a Fed review, and it would remove an exemption monetary policy has enjoyed.
