basic stuff to do:

* get some water jerrycans, fill them up with water, put them in the house or the garage. you need at least 5 jerrycans per person.

* get a 10kg bag of rice, it will last for years, store it in the house

* figure out how to cook rice without electricity. one easy way is to put some rice in a covered container, put water in, and leave it out in the sun. it might not taste like a five-star restaurant meal, so add some chilli sauce or something.

there you go, you can now survive for at least 3 weeks, even longer if it rains and you can collect new water.

no you don't REMEMBER it, you go and DO IT!! As soon as possible, you go and buy one 20 litre water jerry, fill it up, and put it under your bed. Then you watch the auto shop or camping shop catalogs for when they are having a sale, and get the other jerries you need, fill them up and store them.

Next time you go to the supermarket, buy a big bag of rice, or you can buy lots of little bags. Either way will work. At the auto shop get one of those plastic storage bins, put the rice in there. Also buy 2 litres of REGULAR bleach, not lemon scented or any other crap, just REGULAR bleach. you can use this for water purification, look up details on the internet.

Then next sunny day, get some rice and some water, and cook some rice without electricity. It might take some hours to cook by just leaving it in the sun, but that's okay, at least you will have some food. Taste it and see what you have to add to it so that you will eat it. Obviously when you get really hungry, it will taste A LOT BETTER, so bear that in mind.

You can get all this stuff for about $100 or less if you shop around. How much is a PS3 game? How much is living for a month worth to you?
