Re: What did you do to Prep today?
Almost a wasted day.

Watered the garden. Got my "mosquito farm" as Red calls it finished. About 25 or the grubiest jars from the out building next door that had no lids and were really nasty. Got those washed up yesterday.
Went for a ride on the Quad. About the time Red got up. She wanted lunch in town.
Had mex. Talked to the owner about either buying from me or trading for dinners, banana peppers and bells, sweet corn and maybe some cantelope.
Tomatoes maybe, he has a few sources for those already.

Checked the pizza place uses canned, tried subway, manager will be in Monday.

Bought some jars at Grocery. Wanted pints, I'm about out.
I keep canning and don't really use much.

Of the 400 or so jars I've put up last 2 seasons maybe used 30?

So I keep putting it away......and it just sits there.

Good deal.
Talked to I think one of the young owners, never seen him before, at the grocery, they don't carry pints. Didn't last year. I got him to check computer and he'll hae 12 dozen Monday.
And will continue to carry them.

Wasted a buttload of time over on the BS solar thread.
Way too much drama for me.
I'll keep going on mine but there is no AA and i think it's all about BS entertainment. Keeping people busy.

The "Parvati" suggested this. "AA" showed up after 3 weeks or so of being missing.
Several of us were sure it wasn't the old AA........
Not sure if it was RTX or Parvati or whatever the new name was in the last 2 days.......

What a joke. Just to sell memberships and make money.
Oh well gotta pay the bills somehow.

Didn't get the corn up today. Better get after it quick because I'm eating all of it.
Like 6 ears tonight?
Man is it good.
My off grid buddy was over yesterday. Said he'd come by early this morning to help.
We left for lunch at 1pm, no show. Came by while we were gone. Left me sme garlic, traded for 6 ears of corn yesterday.
I'll boil up some more of my garlic/pepper repellent tomorrow.
And he left a corn "kerchunker"
A cool device with a long bows metal handle, 8" lng, with band steel loops that form an "O", in 2 halves. one attached to each side of the tongs, to scrape/cut the corn off in one stroke.
Genius. It'll cut down the time by 3/4 for cutting and i think will remove the kernals with less "cream corn" kinda mess.

We'll see tomorrow.
I did buy 4 dozen 12 oz jars. Same size as store bought metal cans. Those will work but I think I'd like pints better. Might cut the corn tomorrow nad refridgerate it and exchange the jars moday. these are kinda decorative, $9.60 per dozen.

The store man said list on pints was $8.50 but he'd let me have them for $7.50......cool.
I need to thank him and be real nice to him.

Don't even waste your time with Subway they are forced to buy from their distributor.

You might want to set up a booth at a flea market and sale some of your stuff. Check the laws to make sure you you can do that.

You might also consider starting your own small restaurant or vegetable delivery co op if you have so much extra

You can sell at the flea markets around here. The Amish do that alot.

Pretty old fashioned here abouts.

I wouldn't expect a swat team to raid my Amish freinds over raw milk or organic tomatoes.
Not as bad as California, yet.
Or New York, or Pennsylvania or Massachusets or......

I don't think it is wise to think about being alone in the aftermath of a catastrophe. People have always had a need to pull together, this in itself is what maintains survival of a land-dwelling species.

Should a world changing catastrophe happen, weeks and months afterward are where there is a greater chance that peoples will lose their will and lose fitness to deal with the relentless struggles to live. Whether the good and kind folk like it or not, the first to band up will be the aggressive types. So it is a wise idea to think in terms of preparing for living in new, small village-like groups. Grouping together increases protection of individuals. The skills within a group are going to be varied. A phrase comes to mind, 'many hands make light work'. It is true. Each will have a role to play. There are human instincts and patterns both physical and emotional that keep us feeling safe. Safety is calm and calm is needed for success.

The comment on the first page about generators - especially. Perhaps there will be no fuel and perhaps they are noisy but if 20 people out of a hundred have one car battery and one generator each, you have the potential to provide power to your small village. ....

And so on ...

Just my take.

I bot a cheap internal frame pack the other day to keep in the car, just in case. It will work but for serious bugout I'll use my external frame Kelty.

I keep reading that you can't see over your shoulder with an external frame pack, so I loaded my Kelty to head height and put it on. Keeping my feet planted in place, I had no problem what so ever. The pack rotates with your upper body.

Made a few ounces of herbal ointment.

Made 4 pints of herbal insect repellent to give to friends.

Harvested several baskets of culinary herbs for drying.

Started another tumbler of compost.

The morning is still young. I may do something else today.

Re: What did you do to Prep today?
I'm praying for all of you and for myself in corporate worship with like minded believers. Despite the signs and symptoms of our civilizations, there is beauty and hope.

Prepping is about skills learned, so much so that they become the fabric of our being. No one can know them all. All of us can learn some.

Even if challenged by circumstances, the members of a tribe can pull together. This synergistic effect embraces differences and is tolerant of them.

We live together in a covenant relationship with each other and God. Real love doesn't force anyone to do anything. That's rape. Real love comes freely in reciprocity because mentally balanced folks want to return affection and caring.

Some people will falter. They won't prepare and won't help themselves. We have to be at peace with that.

Today, I am praying for all of you to prepare and learn new skills, hone old ones, and be willing to listen to wise older experienced people.

These old ones will surely die if there is a collapse, and their knowledge and wisdom will pass from this world. We owe it to them and to ourselves to work as communities. Perhaps that will mean repelling evil, but most likely it will mean ridding the evil within ourselves. The mote in another's eye is so very small, but the log within our own is so very large.

Peace to you this day.

I think I'm back up to about 10 or 12 Alice packs.

JPLenterprize.com still has them for $50 FOR 2, medium or large. Or one of each.
He goes over the frames, usualy repaints them, checks each bag over and all straps.

Good guy. East of Kansas City. I consider him a personal freind.

Check his website for good deals on gear.

His name is Samuel Dawson. Just now opening a storefront in Raytown, east of Kansas City.

I believe I can now do a "vaporizing carburetor" that gets 50+ mpg.

So simple it's stupid. On you tube.

Wood gas is another. Pretty easy to do but alot of work and cleaning the filtering systems. To run vehicle motors and gennies.

Also Browns' gas. Use the O2 to enrich your air and burn the hydrogen in gennies.
Only prob is has to be on a relatively large scale to get sufficient surplus to run your equipment.
Dangerous too if you fugg up.

I won't leave out wind and solar either.

Solar is getting real cheap but batteries still expensive.

Re: What did you do to Prep today?
Got lots of cardio. Wadda horny broad. Good deal.banana2

Dried peppers. Charger on the Quad. New sealed battery keeps going down. My high dollar battery isolator from my dually that hooked a second battery for a Browns gas system I experimented with for 6 months was fried, had it mounted on the bike but wasn't working.
I think the old battery I took off the mower is going dead and taking the new sealed battery down with it.

I've got high current diodes, I need to get the new hand made isolator done.
Radios aren't getting done either. I've checked, cleaned and peaked 3 so far out of 20.

Need to get one on the bike.

More that's already on my list.

Have a blessed week everyone.

I put in a full days practice with my recurve bow.

You gun lovers have not got a HOPE when TSHTF.

They make too much noise..are too heavy..and give your position away to anyone for miles.

A bow..is silent...light...deadly..and the ammo is reusable again and again and again..plus you can MAKE it from whatevers lying around.

Gun are only good in a firefight....but USELESS for survival and STEALTH.

DO NOT waste money on a compound.

Where ya gonna find a BOW press out in the woods when one of the million and one fiddly sensetive bits on it fucks up?

Compound bows are WORSE than useless..worse than guns really.

Forget compound..when TSHTF..you need a good takedown recurve and or a decent longbow..60 pound on each.

Good points but compounds rarely break. I'm still shooting my old Darton SL50 magnum I bought about 1978. Rebuilt it once about 1982,one limb was broken when my Suburban was hit by a semi......long story.

I have 7 other bows too. Just last month picked up a 3rd PSE 80 pounder, yup, I've got 3 of those now.
I also have a bear recurve that I always wanted when young and couldn't afford.

I keep saying I'm going to build a crossbow out of one that the limbs are close to the stock at full draw, smaller size.
I've got one laminated Savage stock for that.

Saw that design 3 years ago at Bass Pro. Beat again.
I try to pick up any decent aluminum or fiberglass arrows any time they show up at the flea market. Get them after bow season cheap.
I now have over 100 2117's and maybe 50 2317 alloy (commonly called "logs" in the day), forget the alloy designation, XL?
At larry's bow club in Holt Michigan (I grew up in Lansing), in 1979 I had one 2317 bounce off 3 trees and stick the target.........
No bends and not broken. Tough buggers.

That last PSE I paid $85 for and got 6-2317's for $85.
The most I've paid for any one of them. I considered the arrows worth that.....didn't tell him though, they don't make them anymore.
Everyone is using overdraw and shorter, smaller diameter, lighter arrows for over 300 fps these days, you can keep those.

My old Darton, when first shot at Anderson Archery when Fred Bear was still around was doing 235 fps, faster than 90% of what was out. I had redesigned the cable guard to use typewriter pulleys and was slightly overdrawing the limbs.
25 fps faster than stock. 5 patent ideas on that bow. 3 are still not out.....
I've got 500 of the old 6" marco plastic veins (feathers). When I was working on wind turbines in S. Dakota I stopped at an archery store, bought all of his Marcos and his last dozen 2317's, said nobody wanted them anymore.
Try to buy fletching cement every season. It doesn't last long in the metal tubes, maybe 2 seasons if you're lucky. That'll be a problem in SHTF.
I also built a baddass arrow straightener 10 years ago. Last time I priced those they were like $300.
I used to straighten for the club.

I miss Larry. Taught me to shoot. Moved in 2 doors down when I was 14 and he got back from 'Nam and married his HS sweetheart.

Gotta return these 12oz jars and get after the corn. Might pick more, it ain't gonna last forever.
Should have pints in today. I'll buy about 7 dozen. I like the 12oz for venison but I'll be happy getting non decorated jars that are 16oz instead of 12oz for $2 less.
Grocer gave me a deal.
Tilled up my cabbage patch area again, yesterday. Transplanted 40 tomatoe plants this morning and 4 marigolds.
All these came up in the corn from last year fruit that was tilled under. I've had them growing in the back about 4" apart.
When pulled out of the corn they were 2"-6". They are now 12"-3'.....I've got a soaker hose going on those.

Should give me an excellent late sason, maybe September to October, crop of more maters.

No damage, no critters. Gettin itchy for watermelon.

Lets see. You with bow capable of MAYBE 60 YARDS....
me with the big 300 and looking at 600 yards.......
I'll take both. Add another bow to the collection.

don't get me wrong, I love my bows. They have a place. Yes if you want to take out the competition without noise it's not as messy or as hard, as getting close enough to cut their throat.

Now I know you're thinking you are a better woodsman and yer going to sneak within 40 yards and the poor bastage won't even know you are there.....
(Unless maybe he spotted you with thermal before you got within 300 yards......)

Some guys like me, snuck up to my first big buck at 10' and shot him in the neck, dropped him like a sack of rocks.

Re: What did you do to Prep today?
I prep almost every day also in one way or another. Sometimes its just information collecting watching video's of other preppers, gardeners, canning, dehydrating, growing, etc etc etc.

Today is a video day for me, I'm going to watch some video's on herbs, as my herbs on July 30th are trying to go to seed.

I picked a full bunch of basil and its dehyrating in my huge dehydrator yesterday. My husband is making saurkraut and will be cutting up and salting more cabbage tonight. He is also started wine making.

I'm sewing dolls, its for spending money for me, as I stay home and watch over our dogs and garden, but I like money so I'm starting my own little etsy shop to sell stuff I make.

I will have to freeze a few large bags of green beans tomarrow also, too tired today.

My husband is a NRA member, loves to read about guns and collect them.

We have been canning and collecting food (emergency essentials foods also), for years, so we are prepped for catastrophe.

Living in Michigan we can't really bug out, except maybe into the swamp behind us and that would be horrible. Rather stay and 'fight it out' in our home.

What did I do today to Prep? I Prayed and I will continue to pray everyday. I don't know what makes you preppers think that this planet will be survivable during or after what is about to take place. You are not going to be able to survive what is coming or what will continue for a few years. All the preparation in this world will not help. Prayer is the only thing that is guaranteed to save you.
