Wow.

Thank you for the link. I considered the Mona Lisa when I was viewing it. I did not know it was painted by Da Vinci.

Seems, the hermaphrodite type countenance is a source of mystery.

Baptism is also referenced, which Jad brought up yesterday...

The pointing gesture of St. John toward the heavens suggests the importance of salvation through baptism that John the Baptist represents.

Many people are critical of this work, finding it a disturbing representation of a character normally portrayed as gaunt and fiery, living in a desert and surviving on a diet of locusts and honey. In Leonardo's painting St. John seems almost to be a hermaphrodite. He has a womanish arm bent across his breast, his finger raised towards heaven, and that same enigmatic smile so admired on the face of Mona Lisa, a smile which can be seen in other Leonardo paintings like that of St. Anne

yah dreams...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34334026

Speaking of dreams I had a strange one this morning...

Essentially, my father had spent $1500 on 'new teeth' for my parents dog, without my mother knowing.

The 'teeth' looked like human teeth. Quite a surprise to look down and see their dachshund with a human grill.

I was then directed toward some type of medical bag, where I happened upon vials which resembled the 'adrenaline' image pi often posts, but when I read the description it said clonopine.

Which I looked up, after I woke up.

I am just completing the short-term withdrawal of my clonazepam prescription, as you are probably aware.

I tried to ween myself off in December but unfortunately I ran into problems.

My chest became too tight; I could not relax my "heart area". I was not psychologically anxious, but I could barely move at times.

But this time around it has been much easier. Perhaps it is because my heart has opened up. ;P

Magnetic Mirror

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

A magnetic mirror is a magnetic field configuration where the field strength changes when moving along a field line. The mirror effect results in a tendency for charged particles to bounce back from the high field region.

Charged particles with a velocity component perpendicular to the field will gyrate around a field line in a generally circular or helical orbit and thus sample some of the field lines that are converging to create the field gradient. The radial component of these field lines, coupled with the azimuthal motion of the particle, will result in a force parallel to the field and directed toward the region of smaller field strength.

A more mathematical treatment of the mirror effect describes it as a result of the adiabatic invariance of the magnetic moment. For a given mirror ratio (the maximum field strength divided by the minimum field strength), particles with a pitch angle (angle between the particle velocity and the magnetic field) greater than a critical value will be reflected, those with a smaller pitch angle will escape.

Spirituality must be lived, not just studied. All the books in the world will NOT help us if we do not live what we learn.

I would like to share a story about this if I may...it is not a happy story so be warned.

Several years ago I was having a conversation about mental illness with another. We had just gotten into the car and were less than 2 block away from the house, when I noticed a young woman standing on the corner at the intersection.

It was Summer and warm.

She was wearing so many clothes that I instantly recognized her condition.

I pointed her out I said, that is what schizophrenia looks like.

A moment later, I got a flash of a local news report of a missing woman who was said to have schizophrenia. By that time the light had change and we were driving through the intersection.

I told the driver that I was certain it was the woman from the news broadcast the night before. He didn't believe me and continued driving. At the time neither of us had cell phones.

I was so certain I asked for him to pull over so that I could call the police. He refused.

I found out, the next day, that she had crossed the street and went up to one of the Masonic Cemeteries we had in the neighborhood.

There she removed the scarf her husband had purchased her for Christmas and hung herself in a tree...

...

I found out a bit after that, that she was the wife of a relatives roommate.

I still hold that.

Yes... Benzodiazepines are among the most dependence liable of all drugs. Only ethyl alcohol is more so. Unlike the opiates, withdrawing from benzodiazepines can be fatal.

When Diazepam ('Valium') was invented it was prescribed to anyone that asked and even more that didn't... primarily housewives, as it turned out to be, would end up on a combination of diazepam and an amphetamine stimulant. One ad for Valium called it "Mother's Little Helper".

I do not like the physical feeling that clonazepam or other benzodiazepines give me; furthermore, I am prone to paradoxical symptoms.

Really they are awful drugs. They are far inferior to opiates, and even cannabis, in the treatment of anxiety disorders, especially Social Anxiety.

A well-guarded secret is that opiates have been known for 200 (perhaps since the dawn of history even...) years to be highly effective anti-psychotic agents.

Opiates are far superior in that regard to benzodiazepines, and light-years ahead of the standard lame excuses for anti-anxiety medication that is usually prescribed.
