Re: X Marks the Spot
My brother's name is Evan. He has been remarking to me often for the last year why I hardly talk to him anymore.

We use to spend at least two night together every week for years, up until last year when I moved here. He had his first child just months after I moved.

Our conversations were something I looked forward to every time he arrived.

I am who I am in large part due to him.

I miss him more than words...could ever convey.

On an entirely unrelated note...

I have been pondering on this image for the last 3 days or so, due to androgyny being a reoccurring topic.

I find it curious that St. John was depicted so feminine...

He was also considered 'beloved', which to me sounds like a female. Could of been a female spirit in a mans body or two-spirited.1dunno1
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32430667

The image is definitely feminine.

Even the way he appears to be holding 'him'self. Covering if you will, the breast area.

I don't know anything about St. John, but I am being continually prompted to return to this image over the last few days.

On John The Baptist

Gabriel therefore announced to Zachary that he would have a son whose name would be called John, who would drink no wine nor strong drink, and who would precede the Lord in the spirit and power of Elias.

Here John is called Elias for he was like him in many things: in his manner of living, for they were both in the desert; in their food, for they both lived abstemiously; in their clothing, for they both wore poor garments; in their office, for they were both forerunners, as Elias was the forerunner of the Judge and John that of the Saviour; they were both equally zealous, for their words burned like flaming torches.

And Zachary, giving thought to his advanced age and the barrenness of his wife, doubted the angel's words, and, after the manner of the Jews, demanded a sign as proof. Thereupon the angel, to punish him for having disbelieved his message, struck him dumb, thus giving him the sign he asked.
...
The Holy Precursor of Christ was endowed with nine singular privileges.

His birth was announced by the same angel who announced the birth of Christ.
He leaped in the womb of his mother.
He was lifted from the ground by the Mother of God.
At his birth he loosed his father's tongue.
He originated baptism.
He proclaimed the mission of Christ.
He baptized Christ.
He was honoured by being praised above all others by Christ.
He announced the coming of Christ to the souls in Limbo.
And by reason of these nine privileges the Lord declared him a prophet, and more than a prophet.

I read at one point and was surprised at the time...

That John the Baptists birth was as prophesied as it it was.

"Christians believe that John the Baptist had a specific role ordained by God as forerunner or precursor of Jesus, who was the foretold Messiah.

The New Testament Gospels speak of this role. In Luke 1:17 the role of John is referred to as being "to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

In Luke 1:76 as "...thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways" and in

Luke 1:77 as being "To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins.""

What I see when I look at the image is a soft knowing.

There is a softness to the figure which to me portrays a gentle nature. Gentleness more often represented in the female sex.

The figure also appears to have reddish hair, which goes into all sorts of things.

John is also pointing up and pointing directly to the heart chakra indicating the 'Heaven is within' or the Kingdom of God is within you.

He hold the crossed sticks.

He also appears to be clothed in a fur shawl of sorts and the way he is holding himself displays modesty although nearly naked.

There is a gentle imploring in the eyes and the figure glows amidst the dark background.

:)

St. Ivan Island

Around the 7th-4th century BC, the island was populated by Thracians. After Sozopol (Apollonia) was conquered by the Romans in 72 BC, a lighthouse was built on the island. Next to the Thracian sanctuary, the locals built a temple of Apollo featuring a bronze statue by Calamis standing 13.2 metres (43 ft) in height, making it easy to see from the city. A complex of buildings was constructed around the temple in the southeastern part of the island, including health stations, inns, etc.

Tarim mummies

The Tarim mummies are a series of mummies discovered in the Tarim Basin in present-day Xinjiang, China, which date from 1800 BCE to 200 CE

The new finds are also forcing a reexamination of old Chinese books that describe historical or legendary figures of great height, with deep-set blue or green eyes, long noses, full beards, and red or blond hair. Scholars have traditionally scoffed at these accounts, but it now seems that they may be accurate

Is it gravity and heat that cause landslides on Iapetus?

Recently, the science journal Nature Geoscience described giant, icy landslides that are supposedly taking place on the Saturnian moon Iapetus. According to the report, it is frictional heating that overcomes resistance, causing the moon’s crust to give way and move across its surface.

By way of background, Iapetus is only 1436 kilometers in diameter, with a surface temperature close to absolute zero. The Voyager II mission originally photographed it as the spacecraft passed by on August 22, 1971. Although it is a small moon, Iapetus has several extremely large craters, one of which exhibits a distinct bulge in the center, with another crater at the top. Iapetus resembles its sister moon, Dione in many ways, such as bright cliffs and abundant shallow craters with central peaks and no blast debris.

An image of the landslide within a 600 kilometer crater reveals a smaller crater, half buried by the landslide, that is itself 120 kilometers wide. The larger crater wall, presumably out of which the landslide fell, has been estimated at 15 kilometers in height. NASA describes this as being a strictly geologic feature...............
