Wow.

Thank you for the link. I considered the Mona Lisa when I was viewing it. I did not know it was painted by Da Vinci.

Seems, the hermaphrodite type countenance is a source of mystery.

Baptism is also referenced, which Jad brought up yesterday...

The pointing gesture of St. John toward the heavens suggests the importance of salvation through baptism that John the Baptist represents.

Many people are critical of this work, finding it a disturbing representation of a character normally portrayed as gaunt and fiery, living in a desert and surviving on a diet of locusts and honey. In Leonardo's painting St. John seems almost to be a hermaphrodite. He has a womanish arm bent across his breast, his finger raised towards heaven, and that same enigmatic smile so admired on the face of Mona Lisa, a smile which can be seen in other Leonardo paintings like that of St. Anne

Hey Seer hf

That's an interesting picture, it looks like the head is the wrong angle to be on that body. This is an obvious or deliberate mistake, Leonardo would not do that especially at the end of his career. And glaringly the head is too small for the body but the hands are oversized (which is good as also Michangelo used this technique aswell as the hands never look right if drawn to scale).

And the light source, its stronger and closer in the light on the face and higher up.

Leonardo would attend at paint during autopsies he had an intimate understanding of the human body, both inside and out.

As it was his last painting it could have possibly been finished by someone else, or he was deliberately trying to say something.

Someone of his artistic caliber just didn't make mistakes like that.

Eastern Orthodox church architecture
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

The Eastern Orthodox faithful believe that John was the last of the Old Testament prophets, thus serving as a bridge between that period of revelation and the New Covenant. They also teach that, following his death, John descended into Hades and there once more preached that Jesus the Messiah was coming, so he was the Forerunner of Christ in death as he had been in life

is their official doctorine

According to Sacred Tradition, John the Baptist appears at the time of death to those who have not heard the Gospel of Christ, and preaches the Good News to them, that all may have the opportunity to be saved. Orthodox churches will often have an icon of St. John the Baptist in a place of honor on the iconostasis, and he is frequently mentioned during the Divine Services. Every Tuesday throughout the year is dedicated to his memory.

their secret is john taught jesus to be what he become

john transmitted information to jesus thus providing evidence that all can become like he
 Quoting: aether

Russian cosmism was a philosophical and cultural movement that emerged in Russia in the early 20th century. It entailed a broad theory of natural philosophy combining elements of religion and ethics with a history and philosophy of the origin, evolution and future existence of the cosmos and humankind. It combined elements from both Eastern and Western philosophic traditions as well as from the Russian Orthodox Church.
 Quoting: observation

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

this exists for 2 reasons, communism (no god) and the orthodox church (jesus was a man taught by john)

The Orthodox Church, officially called the Orthodox Catholic Church and commonly referred to as the Eastern Orthodox Church, is the dominant Christian denomination in Greece, Romania, Moldova, Cyprus, Georgia and the Slavic countries of Russia, Belarus, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Ukraine. It considers itself to be the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Jesus Christ and his Apostles almost 2,000 years ago. Orthodoxy is the second largest Christian communion in the world, with an estimated 300 million adherents.
 Quoting: observation

In discussing God's relationship to His creation, Orthodoxy used the concept of a distinction between God's eternal essence which is totally transcendent and His uncreated energies which is how He reaches us. The God who is transcendent and the God who touches us are one and the same (i.e. These energies are not something that proceed from God or that God produces, but rather they are God himself: distinct, yet inseparable from, God's inner being)

What I see when I look at the image is a soft knowing.

There is a softness to the figure which to me portrays a gentle nature. Gentleness more often represented in the female sex.

The figure also appears to have reddish hair, which goes into all sorts of things.

John is also pointing up and pointing directly to the heart chakra indicating the 'Heaven is within' or the Kingdom of God is within you.

He hold the crossed sticks.

He also appears to be clothed in a fur shawl of sorts and the way he is holding himself displays modesty although nearly naked.

There is a gentle imploring in the eyes and the figure glows amidst the dark background.

However, my lifestyle does not permit for a dog. Although, my dream some day is to have a white German Shepard or something close. I like Jack Russles too...

We use to spend at least two night together every week for years, up until last year when I moved here. He had his first child just months after I moved.

Our conversations were something I looked forward to every time he arrived.

On John The Baptist

Gabriel therefore announced to Zachary that he would have a son whose name would be called John, who would drink no wine nor strong drink, and who would precede the Lord in the spirit and power of Elias.

Here John is called Elias for he was like him in many things: in his manner of living, for they were both in the desert; in their food, for they both lived abstemiously; in their clothing, for they both wore poor garments; in their office, for they were both forerunners, as Elias was the forerunner of the Judge and John that of the Saviour; they were both equally zealous, for their words burned like flaming torches.

And Zachary, giving thought to his advanced age and the barrenness of his wife, doubted the angel's words, and, after the manner of the Jews, demanded a sign as proof. Thereupon the angel, to punish him for having disbelieved his message, struck him dumb, thus giving him the sign he asked.
...
The Holy Precursor of Christ was endowed with nine singular privileges.

His birth was announced by the same angel who announced the birth of Christ.
He leaped in the womb of his mother.
He was lifted from the ground by the Mother of God.
At his birth he loosed his father's tongue.
He originated baptism.
He proclaimed the mission of Christ.
He baptized Christ.
He was honoured by being praised above all others by Christ.
He announced the coming of Christ to the souls in Limbo.
And by reason of these nine privileges the Lord declared him a prophet, and more than a prophet.

I read at one point and was surprised at the time...

That John the Baptists birth was as prophesied as it it was.

"Christians believe that John the Baptist had a specific role ordained by God as forerunner or precursor of Jesus, who was the foretold Messiah.

The New Testament Gospels speak of this role. In Luke 1:17 the role of John is referred to as being "to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

In Luke 1:76 as "...thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways" and in

Luke 1:77 as being "To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins.""
