...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34467417

I can see it slowing down, can someone explain why?

Rate of travel -
10:00 AM MST @ 5.5 Km/s
10:30 AM MST @ 5.2 Km/s
11:00 AM MST @ 4.8 Km/s
11:30 AM MST @ 3.8 Km/s
11:50 AM MST @ 2.9 Km/s

That's a 53% reduction in speed in less than 2 hours!

Slingshot effect? You always slow into a curve and speed out.
 Quoting: Dionysian Fullaflattus

The speed is relative to Earth not it's actual speed. At the closest point the speed will indicate 0.

interesting. i just might buy that.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20254550

Every place on Earth is continuously at risk.

what should one do to protect himself???

Why is DA14 slowing down to almost half of its speed (and falling) from yesterday?
 Quoting: LunaHominem

Exaggerate much?
It has passed its closest approach to Earth and is now climbing out of Earth's gravity well.
Like all things thrown upward it now loses speed.
It won't fall back though. Its current speed is way in excess of escape velocity for that distance.

Re: X Marks the Spot
nasa just came on "off topic" tounge

What evidence is there that the local interstellar cloud containing the Sun and the G-cloud containing alpha Centauri etc are electric Birkeland current filaments? [link to www.thunderbolts.info]
 Quoting: observation

Hmm, I'm not sure there's any direct evidence. Just thinking out loud here, sorry

In a classical Birkeland current (field aligned current in Geomagnetic field) there is a larger current system (Earth's) that creates the magnetic field which the Birkeland current is then driven along. How would this occur in interstellar space? What would be the larger current system, some galactic system or maybe intermediate scale?

Unfortunately we are quite limited here, to line of sight integrals of absorption lines and indirect measurements of bulk LISM magnetic field in what is basically an instant on the relevant timescales of these gigantic systems. [link to www.thunderbolts.info]
