I enjoyed hearing aether's, Luna's, Fringe's, and Z-punks voices. But the general chitchat was a bit like listening in on a 7th grade lunch room conversation.

Quite raunchy and unstimulating.

Pi...I was thinking you may be able to offer some assistance on this thread. As you know so much regarding pharmaceuticals, which I normally would not suggest, but this man's story about his wife is haunting and very sad.

I am being compelled to show you this. Perhaps you can help or make a suggestion.

I would read through the OP's posts completely to get the full picture.

Thread: Please help, please. Does anybody know?

Someone saying they ingested a 'funny orange' liquid given to them by the principle of the school.

More to it than that, but the gist of it is, I identified the liquid as Methadone.

An hour later the person returns claiming to be 'having some fun' with me.

You both detest each other, yet you make nice over a pic.

Yes.

Me too.

My very first thought was something which would most likely not be taken well and I can understand why. But is it said that Electro-convulsive therapy is beneficial in cases of severe and debilitating depression.

I have heard it's a bit like a re-boot to the brain. But after the horrors psychiatrist have visited on the mentally ill just over the last 100 years or so, causes me to not want to suggest that.

Dunno.

It's very sad to hear of someone suffering so completely like that. I was also going to suggest Cannabis as well, but that can make people paranoid in some cases and might worsen the situation. As it is a mild hallucinogen.

Perhaps her memories are what is haunting her. Maybe not. It is just something I remember hearing in a couple of psych classes and in a documentary I watched and was my first 'flash' after reading the OP.

That the only benefits they 'found' after using said, was on depressed patients.

The New Abolitionism

Within a few centuries, it will be technically if not ideologically feasible to abolish suffering of any kind.

If we wish to do so, then genetic engineering and nanotechnology can be used to banish unpleasant modes of consciousness from the living world.

In their place, gradients of life-long, genetically pre-programmed well-being may animate our descendants instead.

Millennia if not centuries hence, the world's last aversive experience may even be a precisely dateable event: perhaps a minor pain in an obscure marine invertebrate.

Far-fetched? Right now, the abolitionist project sounds fanciful. The task of redesigning our legacy-wetware still seems daunting.

Rewriting the vertebrate genome, and re-engineering the global ecosystem, certainly pose immense scientific challenges even to a technologically advanced civilisation.

The ideological obstacles to a happy world, however, are more formidable still.

For we've learned how to rationalise the need for mental pain - even though its nastier varieties blight innumerable lives, and even though its very existence will soon become optional.

MDMA wears off and can cause one to feel awful after. NOt to mention brain fog. I wouldn't suggest drug therapy of that kind.

If one had let's say a button they could push to receive pleasure, then how would anything ever get done? One could just sit around in a squirming mass of self pleasure.

Well I was thinking of something which could be a more permanent solution without constant 'drugging'.

Having taken MDMA in the distant past, I know how I felt the next day. Attempting simple addition took on a complexity I found alarming. I felt like my Mind had been stuffed with cotton.

It reduces us to our most basic state, wherein old 'tangles' of dissonance simply cannot hold any power.

Personally, I think that when one is severely depressed to the point of begging to die, that a quick fix utilizing pleasure chemicals with their known after effects, could do more harm than good.

Especially, something as addictive/dangerous as some of the things you are suggesting.
