The name derived from the approximate length of time from the point at which a Soviet nuclear missile attack against the United Kingdom could be confirmed and the impact of those missiles on their targets. The population was to be notified by means of air raid sirens, television and radio, and urged to seek cover immediately. In practice, the warning would have been more likely three minutes or less. Quoting: observation[link to en.wikipedia.org] the pinnacle of our eduction system was a no brainer to avoid I have a natural fear of those as well... As I have mentioned in the past. I believe you mentioned the other day regarding 'trauma' and perhaps being encoded in DNA. Gen X came out of 3 generations of rather war hardened peoples. They who witnessed vast devastation the likes we have not, and hopefully will not see again. I have heard that in that October or November of 1918 after the Spanish Influence ran through the world, WWI was still in action, it must of felt like the End of The World. To them... WWI At the end of 1918, an armistice was finally agreed upon. The fighting was to end on the 11th hour of 11th day of 11th month (i.e. 11 am on Nov. 11, 1918). For the next several months, diplomats argued and compromised together in order to come up with the Versailles Treaty. The Versailles Treaty was the peace treaty that ended World War 1; however, a number of its terms were so controversial, that it also set the stage for World War 2. The carnage left behind by the end of World War 1 was staggering. By the end of the war, an estimated 10 million soldiers were killed. That averages to about 6,500 deaths a day, every day. Plus, millions of civilians were also killed. World War 1 is especially remembered for its slaughter for it was one of the bloodiest wars in history. [link to history1900s.about.com] The 1918 flu pandemic (January 1918 – December 1920) was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic, the first of the two pandemics involving H1N1 influenza virus (the second being the 2009 flu pandemic). It infected 500 million people across the world, including remote Pacific islands and the Arctic, and killed 50 to 100 million of them—3 to 5 percent of the world's population —making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history. [link to en.wikipedia.org] They carried that with them. The survivors. And every subsequent generation carries it as well. I don't know if my fear of 'air sirens' was due to seeing WW2 movies of which my mother was fond. Or if it went a little deeper... The less vitamin D the lower the ability to facilitate calcium, and lower immune function. Hence increased rickets and influenza mortality. Quoting: observationIt is more complex than this, but there appears to be linkage. Biology is part of the solar circuit, and when the sun is chaotic for extended periods there are implications for things on the circuit including humans. |
