I have been the victim of rape , incest, betrayal and abandonment from and thru my family among many other things while growing up ( I am sharing this part of my life so that I can say forgiveness works.) Its worse when it comes from the family. I have forgiven them and it released me from the mental hell it put me thru. I speak from experience also. I would like to share a story with you which helped me many years back...
It was rather innocuous word a friend of mine utilized in regard to my own experiences while we were talking...
He said,
you are a 'Survivor'.
It was a simple turn of speech, moving from 'victim' to 'survivor' which change my entire perception of myself and my experiences.
No longer would I allow 'me' to view myself as anything other than. No longer a 'victim' I could move forward and forgive they and those.
To release the pain in an act of forgiveness gives rise to healing on all side.
I would be willing to bet that some still feel guilt, and to be released from said, could be beneficial as well.
To many have been touched by the sting abuse. Some over, and over, and over...
