I use to collect that particular caterpillar as a child.

Year after year, I would make them a little mason jar home, with holes in the lid for air and plenty of greens and water.

I learned patience watching them change inside their cocoons. I learned to sense the impending opening, by the colors expressed.

Once hatched, I would place a long stick for them to climb up to dry their wings.


Then feel both happy and sad, as I watched them fly away.

Yes, it strongly feels that way.

Tonight...I feel neutral. Which is strange, because I feel like crying right now. You know how long it has been since I have done that? It is so infrequent, sometimes I wish I could make myself just to flush out.

I go many years in between even a tear drop. Even now, discussing it, the feeling of it welling up is receding. I often wonder what it would feel like to be able to release in that way.

I think of my daughters, and think that they are 8 and 9, and have only seen me cry once, and I doubt they even remember it. Probably the last 'real' time it happened is when my best friend's wife unexpectedly passed away. And then...

dammit, nevermind. Too many memories. No wonder I have stepped away from everyone around me. I do not like that about me, but the only time I feel really myself, is when I am alone now.

Aether, I think your emotions tonight are contagious. I am going to bury my head in Game of Thrones, and watch my weekly hour of tv to dislocate.
