That's not what I meant. I mean that you tend to 'own' certain behaviors and attitudes.

That is a useful thing to own.
The engravings translate to "This space intentionally left blank."

The prayer is inscribed in an ancient script, rarely used today. It seems to be a philippic against small insects, absent-mindedness, and the picking up and dropping of small objects.

The gate is open; through it you can see a desolation, with a pile of mangled bodies in one corner. Thousands of voices, lamenting some hideous fate, can be heard.
The way through the gate is barred by evil spirits, who jeer at your attempts to pass.

Most people have attachments for material things. They feel real pain when the material thing is removed from their life.

When you can remove those material things, and not feel pain, then the attachment is insubstantial, and like you said, you can alter yourself as you see fit, instead of having the material alter you.

It is more powerful to admit than to deny.

“Denying oneself is an indulgence. The indulgence of denying is by far the worst; it forces us to believe that we are doing great things, when in effect we are only fixed within ourselves.”

material things have altered my personality in my past
nuts really
it was 50/50
me not possessing anything emotional of interest other than myself finding out money does not discover emotion of the nature i desired
and you alter in the way people interact with you whether you want them to or not
like you are always admitted
i never discovered a door that was not opening it`self to me in return for payment and i traveled to many countries to notice that is true
sometimes it only opens to take your money
sometimes it takes your money and gives not what you were told
and sometimes it takes your money and does what it told
but the universal truth i experienced
there is no institutional door that will not open once for money
maybe not twice
but
always once

Re: X Marks the Spot
I quite agree, quantum mechanics leaves a little to desire. Virtual particles seem too convenient to me to get the math to a safe place.

I do notice that they say light is a transverse wave and needs no medium to propagate, yet no one seems to be able to explain wave propagation without a medium. Water or string, both mediums. Sound requires the vibrational properties of atoms to propagate, whereas light merely needs the underlying aether. Of course I believe in an aether, because a space composed of geometric curves without substance that tells mass how to move after mass bends this nothing is just plain moronic. As if something can effect nothing and this nothing then affect somethings. Worse than quantum mechanics and all their virtual particles that exist in whatever state needed until observed. I don't think it can be applied in that context.

An obese person has a routine of eating too much and not being active enough.

A person addicted to crack or meth has a routine supported by behavioral and chemical reinforcements.

In order to change that routine, they must first admit that the routine is a direct threat to their long term health. They must also have a motivation to live without that routine.

'Denying oneself' does not mean just endlessly indulging oneself without a care in the world. It means to look at yourself and not see the plain truth of what you are and what motivates you.

Denying oneself, to me, means to look at yourself and not see the plain truth of what you are and what motivates you.

If one is overweight, to see oneself as overweight. To acknowledge the significance of that unbalanced routine and what it will take to bring it back into balance.

To be conflicted about being overweight...that is, to desire to not be overweight and at the same time to perpetuate the routine that keeps one overweight involves some type of denying of oneself.

Either the person indulges in their routine of eating and that is more important to them...or they suffer to get 'thin' and that is what is more important.

Either way...to remain conflicted is to deny oneself.

Exactly. Which is why the bent of Juan Matus's knowledge is bent on being fluid, light, being able to change oneself.

The biggest threat to the ability we have to change ourselves, according to Juan Matus...is personal history.

“In order to help his ward to erase personal history, the warrior as a teacher teaches three techniques: losing self-importance, assuming responsibility for one’s acts, and using death as an adviser. Without the beneficial effect of these three techniques, erasing personal history would involve being shifty, evasive and unnecessarily dubious about oneself and one’s actions.”
