It is more powerful to admit than to deny.

Denying oneself is an indulgence. The indulgence of denying is by far the worst; it forces us to believe that we are doing great things, when in effect we are only fixed within ourselves.”

hmm

I'm not so sure about that.

Well...

Think of it in context of want vs. need.

It seems 'indulgence' is the direct opposite of denial.

Chronic self indulgence often leading to addiction, obesity, or worse.

I don't think it can be applied in that context.

An obese person has a routine of eating too much and not being active enough.

A person addicted to crack or meth has a routine supported by behavioral and chemical reinforcements.

In order to change that routine, they must first admit that the routine is a direct threat to their long term health. They must also have a motivation to live without that routine.

'Denying oneself' does not mean just endlessly indulging oneself without a care in the world. It means to look at yourself and not see the plain truth of what you are and what motivates you.
