They may be nice to have around if they looked like that always. Strange story perhaps to break the monotony... Several years ago I was out on my front porch in the early morning. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye, I saw some movement in the grass. I looked over to see a pigeon unlike any I had even seen before hopping toward me. Being under the assumption that birds fear people and will not approach them, I watched curiously as this bird hopped closer and closer to me. Without taking much notice of me it then jumped up the the few steps to my front door and went into my house through the door I had left partially open. I was so shocked I wasn't quite sure how to react so I followed it in. It had led itself under the coffee table and was just sitting there. The pigeon was very pretty and I got the distinctive impression it was scared and perhaps 'lost'. I then went and got the cat carrier out of the garage and put it inside. After a bit of marveling at the events, I packed up the bird and drove it to the raptor bird sanctuary in my city. :) Wow. Do you ever feel like animals are drawn to you? I had to double check if that bird was real. It is beautiful. If we supprised london one day... like the folgers switch. We have replaced your normal pogeon with a much more colorful version. I bet everyone would be happier. |

I called the owners and they would come pick him up, not needing directions after the second time. I remember he smelled bad.. There was something else as well, but I can't remember. It sat on my porch for a week and would attempt to sneak in if I opened the door. I searched Craigslist lost and found and local 'missing' posters, but was unable to locate who it belonged to. Eventually it left. I did save a mantis once. It was deep Summer and very hot. I was in a field and saw the mantis on a piece of brown grass. I am not sure why now, but I decided to take it home with me. I placed it on a passion flower bush we had in the shade and went to sink for some water. Using my finger, I placed a large drop of water right next to it. To my amazement the mantis went right for the drop of water and sucked up the entire drop. I returned a few hours later and it was gone. :) Difficulties strengthen the Mind as labor does the body... ~Seneca |

The tactic of bullies is if they can not find a direct pain for those they are confronted with is to attempt hurt at those they love. You have shown me something I will never ever forget, an amazing strength of character is an understatement, even me myself do not disereve the honour of calling you a friend based on my past actions yet here you are still subtly guiding being the wonderful you that you are. I am indebted to you. All my love. |

aether (OP) User ID: 28218601 United Kingdom 01/20/2013 06:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm a big fan of studying/reading about our DNA and how it works...still just a beginner in understanding it, but I ran across an interesting article on Science Daily today. Quoting: MissionInvisible Scientists Shed Light On the 'Dark Matter' of DNA [link to www.sciencedaily.com] "In each cell, thousands of regulatory regions control which genes are active at any time. Scientists at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna have developed a method that reliably detects these regions and measures their activity... However, genes make up only a minority of the entire genome sequence -- roughly two percent in humans. The remainder was once dismissed as "junk," mostly because its function remained elusive. "Dark matter" might be more appropriate, but gradually light is being shed on this part of the genome, too." I'm really glad this part of our DNA is being studied. While they probably do not let much information out about the metaphysical side of our DNA and hyperabilities, at least they are taking it one step further to study what was once considered "junk". I have a feeling this part of our DNA holds all kinds of keys to understanding our past...and potentially our future! For more reading: Bits of Mystery DNA, Far From ‘Junk,’ Play Crucial Role [link to www.nytimes.com] 'Junk DNA’ and the mystery of mankind’s missing genes [link to www.telegraph.co.uk] "It turns out that as much as a fifth of the 98 per cent of our DNA that falls into this category is instead made up, among other things, of “switches” – bits of DNA that turn some genes on and others off. It is now believed that, in order to get to grips with genetic illnesses such as hereditary heart disease, some forms of diabetes and Crohn’s Disease, we need to understand these regulatory elements as much as the genes themselves."
