I did that to myself with a beheading video Seer.. too much to suppress the feelings I had but at the time, it showed just what animals they were ( I sobbed so hard over that). I will not forget that

Yes. I saw that circulating and chose not to watch...

Thankfully.

Why does Man feel compelled to watch other being violently murdered? I ask this as the 60in screen to my direct left displays images of men beating each other half to death cinematically.

Not my thing.

Thank God for headphones.

I watched this back like in early 2009 before I even knew about GLP lol ... not my thing to watch violence in that manner either. There are some movies tho like Transformers I will watch for what I may learn about certain things. But real violence nope. I have been exposed to enough of that , have a certain part that was trained to kick in tho in those kinds of events with the military training I had while in Germany , was stationed in a front line unit for war time connected to a Mash unit ( Mobile Army Surgical Hospital)

Yes.

His name was Daniel Pearl I believe...unless it was a different one.

I chose to watch plenty as well, before I decided to no longer subject myself to said.

And I agree, there is enough violence to have witnessed first hand, to not want to see it perpetrated on others by the choice of a 'click'.

GLP would be even better if we were offered the option to completely hide thread titles from view, if one so chooses...

As some are titles disturbing enough to wrought horror alone.

Indeed.

'Unpin all' my new favorite and constantly utilized feature.

I would honestly say it depends on the "woman" and the "job" some are not cut out for it. There are some women out there more masculine in nature than men I know. Women can be just at good at shooting as men like I said it all depends. Now mothers with children at home and their spouse in the military also I would say no because if something does happen that child needs at least one natural parent.

back in the day when I was into this stuff

I noticed they were deploying husband and wife's ....brothers full sets of them.,.. deploying mothers knowing they had just had a child.... and knowing they had no one to take care f that child....

taking elderly people I think the oldest was 50 years old deployed yes 50 is elderly

they would be waiting out side prisons waiting for them to get out and trying to recruit them or going in and visiting them recruiting them finding out when the date would be till they are let out..

oh the list goes on what they are doing bending over backwards trying to get more bodies out there to fight their war

in the high-schools here they have kids still babies in my eyes doing ROTC every time I see them in uniform I wanna cry

they are just babies..

now they have lifted the ban for women to go to the front lines...

NOT a good idea in many countries they treat women like
well im sure you know what they would do if a woman was soldier was captured..

some day they will run out of people to do there wars and they will just deploy bots.. and thats not a joke either...

I understand.. all of it is a personal choice , not that I promote War I do not. They are beyond that , with some of the technology they have today .. well it is mind boggling at the least. Many movies cover many varieties of what they have. Think about Captain America and creating super soldiers and biologically enhanced as well. Its a War for Earth period not just between nations. And it is perpetuated by Greed. I still shake my head sometimes but the fact of the matter is someone who is not trained to take care of themselves or family is an easy target when a war does break out. that I believe is something everyone should have at least a working knowledge of. But that is merely my opinion. No one should be subjected to the atrocities of war but at this juncture it is part of the planet we live and they have made it into .

Re: X Marks the Spot
I watched a movie one time when I was a teen. I have no frame of reference for the name of the movie or any scene other than the one I am about to relay.

Essentially, a girl, a mother's child was about to be forced to serve in combat, in a country foreign to this one, which allowed said.

The mother in this movie, to keep her daughter, around 16 or so, from being forced into combat, chose to burn her daughters legs severely with either an iron or hot water while she screamed in pain.

I remember being so horrified and conflicted that a mother would 'love' her child so much that she would choose to maim her, before allowing her to war.

It sticks with me to this day.

I don't believe that is love but pure selfishness. Love would never under any circumstances in my opinion maim their child.
I would make them run away from said circumstance's rather than to cause harm from the one person they are supposed to trust.
Maybe my reasoning is a bit tainted tho based on what I have been thru.

Yes...that is why I had such a hard time with it. But at the same time, in the movie the mother was desperate to keep her daughter out of combat. There was also an element of loose agreement between the mother and daughter but I don't think she knew what her mother would do...

It reminds me of something else as well, it was a couple of years later and again I only remember a specific scene.

The scene was again in a foreign country. There was a group of boys playing outside, all between 10-12 or so. A van pulled up with armed soldiers of the country the boys lived.

They forced all of them into the van with the implicit intention in the movie of making them 'child soldiers'...

My mother was next to me as I watched this. She got up and left the room crying.

As I watched her leave, I turned back to the screen seeing only an empty schoolyard holding a lone soccer ball where the boys once played, and an empty living room I now inhabited.

sad

hugs I can relate to the feelings. My son in the Navy turned 18 on July 11th and left for boot camp July 23rd It was a decision he surprised me with on His part. I cried for a month after he left missing him terribly and then on top of that Hurricane Katrina hit and that compounded the pain of his leaving. I wasn't ready for him to leave home so soon and to such a Job. I am proud of him tho he has fair'd well in his job and also protected in what he does to a large degree. The Empty nest thing was very hard on me. I put so much into my boys and was beside my self when my youngest left to live with his dad for awhile and to get to know him , but he eventually came back home. He needed to find out what his father was like. That was a rough patch to go thru and was going thru the 2nd menopause as well. The first was cause of a hysterectomy, ( Still had my ovaries tho)

I believe most go into the military due to a strong desire to help others.

I don't believe most feel they have done said, after they are relieved from the responsibility after having seen combat...

My best friend during my teens and early twenties suddenly told me one day he was considering joining the Marines.

This was in 2000. As we sat in his car arguing over his choice, I said to him that war was coming and that if he chose to enlist he would face said.

He laughed at me.

He joined the Marines, and I supported him for it after he made the choice. Even flying down to San Diego to see him 'graduate'.

On 9/11/01 it was his message on the answering machine which woke me.

By that time the towers had already fallen.

He served 3 combat duties, and came back with the scars to show for it...

I have known a couple of soldiers who came back from Desert storm with the scars from it as well. Fortunately my son has yet to see the face of combat and has been spared so far going to a war torn area. He has mentioned that after this tour he is thinking of getting out because he has mad skills already in the IT field. I pray that he does not have to go but if he stays in it is inevitable I suppose. Something I have tossed around in my heart and it did not feel very good. :(

Yes that Chain is a heavy yoke to bare in the face of doing something against your personal and moral values. I experienced said while I was in and was part of my counseling to get over said occurrence. There are other things that happen in there as well that injure ones abilities to trust other humans that you think you should be able to. It is a mentality the permeates because of the indifference one adopts to go against personal morals and values. Robotic feelings in the making to "obey" as you stated. It was suck it up or you are weak. Back then tho the things I did experience were a cake walk to what occurred at home . Long gone in the past and blown over like a candle in the wind now but many lessons learned.
