Like they were trying to contain it instead of it going out fractally.  My guess is the smell. We often perpetrate a.ction and reason comes second. But other cultures would either use stack alters and give to the air/heavens and then others would burn them. I thought it was just the pharaohs, but google said everyone got it done. Peru did mummifying as well, which I think they would bring out the mummy every year in front of the people.  This is probably not a good subject for today, lol. |

The ancient Egyptians believed that when someone died, their soul left their body. The soul would then return and be reunited with the body after it was buried. However, the soul needed to be able to find and recognise the body in order to live forever. |
