Pit houses were built partially underground, lined with large flat stones, and then four large logs were used as posts, set vertically into the floor of the pit (Ferguson, p. 25-6). Four more logs were set horizontally on top of the first four, and the rest of the house was built up with mud, timber and branches to form the walls and roof in a circular or oval shape, completely underground (Ferguson, p. 25-6). An opening, called a sipapu, was left in the top of the roof as an entrance using a ladder, to symbolize the entrance into the spirit world (Ferguson, p. 27). Some pit houses also had an antechamber or corridor at one end as a means of entrance (Ferguson, p. 27). Other features of the pit houses included a fire pit lined with clay in the middle of the floor for cooking and heating, a draft deflector for the fire, a ventilator shaft in one wall, benches, and bins or niches for storage (Ferguson, p. 27; Brody, p. 72).

The direction that pit houses faced is unclear because of conflicting sources, but is an important topic since most cultures had spiritual or religious beliefs which claim certain directions to be sacred. Ferguson claims that pit houses always faced south (p. 25). Brody, on the other hand, asserts that entries faced east or southeast by way of a tunnel or antechamber attached to the pit house (p. 77).

The traditional pit house dwellings of the Anasazi eventually became known as kivas around 900-1000 A.D., when they were used more for religious and social gatherings (Ferguson, p. 25). The kivas of the Anasazi is the focus (and coincidentally the title) of this paper. The basic structure of the pit houses remains the same for kivas, with little variation among different clans or tribes of the Pueblo Indians. The topics that will now be covered are: the meaning behind the kivas, the differences between kivas and great kivas, and a description of the great kiva Casa Rinconada.

Ancient Pueblo peoples or Ancestral Pueblo peoples were an ancient Native American culture centered on the present-day Four Corners area of the United States, comprising southern Utah, northeastern Arizona, northern New Mexico, and southwestern Colorado

One of the most fascinating and intriguing aspects of Ancestral Puebloan infrastructure is at Chaco Canyon and is the Chaco Road, a system of roads radiating out from many great house sites such as Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl and Una Vida, and leading towards small outlier sites and natural features within and beyond the canyon limits.

Through satellite images and ground investigations, archaeologists have detected at least 8 main roads that together run for more than 180 miles (ca 300 km), and are more than 30 feet (10 m) wide.

Sparse concentrations of ceramic fragments along the North Road have been related to some sort of ritual activities carried out along the roadway. Isolated structures located on the roadsides as well as on top of the canyon cliffs and ridge crests have been interpreted as shrines related to these activities.

Finally, features such as long linear grooves were cut into the bedrock along certain roads which do not seem to point to a specific direction. It has been proposed that these were part of pilgrimage paths followed during ritual ceremonies.

thus we understand our environment is motivated because it chooses how it expresses it`self within structures as in:

the motive that our environment is expressing before any thought of design of structure was imagined by the structures creator and presented to our environment for motive match

Many tourists have climbed to the top, which is not an easy journey. One such person was Sir Siemen’s, a British inventor. He climbed to the top with his Arab guides. One of his guides called attention to the fact that when he raised his hand with outspread fingers, he would hear an acute ringing noise. Siemen raised his index finger and felt a distinct prickling sensation. He also received an electric shock when he tried to drink from a bottle of wine that he had brought with him. Being a scientist, Siemen than moistened a newspaper and wrapped it around the wine bottle to convert it into a Leyden jar (an early form of a capacitor). When he held it above his head, it became charged with electricity. Sparks then were emitted from the bottle. One of the Arab guides got frightened and thought Siemen was up to some witchcraft and attempted to seize Siemen’s companion. When Siemen’s noticed this, he pointed the bottle towards the Arab and gave him such a shock that it knocked the Arab to the ground almost rendering him unconscious.

The electric pyrometer, which is perhaps the most elegant and original of all William Siemens's inventions, is also the link which connects his electrical with his metallurgical researches. Siemens pursued two major themes in his inventive efforts, one based upon the science of heat, the other based upon the science of electricity; and the electric thermometer was, as it were, a delicate cross-coupling which connected both. ........The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert. At over 9,000,000 square kilometres (3,500,000 square miles), it covers most of Northern Africa, making it almost as large as the United States or the continent of Europe. The desert stretches from the Red Sea, including parts of the Mediterranean coasts, to the outskirts of the Atlantic Ocean. Some of the sand dunes can reach 180 meters (600 ft.) in height. Mixed in with the oceanic sands there are large rock formations, boulders, stones and pebbles. Some have compared areas of the Sahara to the surface of Mars.

The sands of the Sahara hold many secrets. It wasn't always a vast desolate ocean of sand; around 5,000 years ago it was a very different terrain. It was a sub-tropical paradise where deer, hippos and elephants were hunted and giraffes and rhinoceros roamed the area. With a plentiful supply of food, thousands of hunter-gatherers flocked to live in this lush savannah.
These facts are evident from the discovery of hundreds of human graves and numerous rock paintings , depicting people hunting and even swimming. Furthermore, radar images taken by the NASA space shuttle show that beneath the sand are networks of rivers, once spanning the entire Sahara. North Africa was once alive with people! What happened to this lush green world?........................

................Where did the Sahara sand come from? It did not exist 6,000 years ago. Experts are proposing that vast oceans of sand formed in less than 3,300 years. This is impossible because Saharan sand is some of the oldest on the planet. Putting this into context means that an area the size of the US has been covered in a vast sea of sand in what has to be the blink of an eye in geological terms. This makes no sense because the time frame for the formation of the sand does not allow it according to consensus theories. If the adjoining deserts swathing out across the Middle East and Asia are also considered, this equates to an area twice the size of the US. Where did all this sand come from?............

When I was driving here yesterday, it was all I could do to focus on the road.

I was in bed, lights out at 9:15 last night. I woke exactly at 5:55am this morning.

The last day on my 'show run'.

It started last Saturday with Mom's Day at OSU, then Wed-Fri for Street Faire at UofO, and Saturday and today in Medford at the Art in Bloom.

3 shows in 8 days.

Also, I do it solo.
