Most times, its ice....  What happens when one holds an 'ice cube' in their hand? Chipping away, does little than scatter it...  Truly. And one must either work quickly.... or be out in the cold while they carve. Otherwise the ice soon vanishes, before it is 'anything' at all. The ice vanishes due pressure and heat. The hand that holds said, endures the colds as the ice melts...solid form turning to flowing movement...
