I was just speaking to my niece last night after grammy's b-day dinner, about how I had to perform the 'Heimlich Maneuver' one time on a child I cared for.

Her age and weight were such that I had to decide in seconds, which method to utilize without hurting her.

I used my fingers instead of a fist.

Which worked fine.


Scary though.

We both cried after.

I saved two choking children before. One was a boy, 11, choking on a jawbreaker. He ran up to me all purple in the face. I felt this rush hit me, and I grabbed him , and began the Heimlich. I turned him around,applied the squeeze around 4 times and I was getting really worried and then all at once the jawbreaker flew across the room. I was so shocked and I hugged the boy and we cried.

Another time, a little girl around 4 was choking on peanut butter. She must have taken a whole tablespoon of it at once. She had a big glob in her throat, and I had to dig it out with my fingers.

When something like this happens, adrenaline kicks in and takes over. :)
