Usually gold is in reference to the sun(male) and silver to the moon(female), but I have heard somewhere the sun could be associated with female.  It was crafted as an object of offering and gold being the most valuable and probably more plentiful medium they had available at the time. It is said in the Kolbrin, that the Egyptian peoples and priests went to the Hebrew holy men and offered them all their wealth to stop the plagues. I imagine that is how much of the Gold may have been accumulated. Not to mention looting. But then, I'm just musing. :) I still have to reread that book. Did the ark go out of control creating plagues, can't remember the story? I wonder what cow technology symbolizes, if the ark symbolized and was electricity? Fertility, hmmm
