"After an hour’s work the signal was tracked down to an electronic weather station bolted to a shed in Beech Road."

A group of householders started being hit by mysterious electronic interference on July 7 – and it was driving them to distraction, or it would have done if they could get their cars started. When Keith Gadd called Toyota for advice, he ended up locked in his own car for five minutes with the alarm screaming.

And he had to push his car six feet outside the deadzone until it turned itself on.

Peter Bould was the first person to spot the forcefield when his Land Rover Discovery it wouldn’t unlock. At first he thought it was the batteries in his key fob, but his wife’s Ford Fiesta wouldn’t unlock either. Eventually they got in and drove to town, where the car locks and alarms all operated correctly.
