I think what it will come down to is the resolve of the Syrian army. If people can remember their World War 2 history, Hitler ordered Albert Speer to carry out the Scorched Earth policy known as 'Nero Decree'. Hitler thought that as Germany had lost the war then the German people were to blame and to hell with them. He wanted every major building and all infrastructure burnt to the ground probably as punishment to the Germans and to deny the advancing Red Army the 'spoils'. Luckily Speer refused otherwise Germany would have been reduced to ashes rather then merely rubble!

Maybe it will be like a domino effect. When the general troops see more and more devastation, more killing, more people in their neighbourhoods being killed, then more of them may defect or refuse to fight or even join the rebels.

If they think its a lost cause and very soon a new Government will form then they will have in the back of their minds the repercussions that may arise if they were viewed as being part of Assad's regime.

It could all fall like a pack of cards like in Libya - it is just taking longer due to the size of Syrian armed forces and the support of Assad.

If it is drawn out now for months then I expect casualties to reach into the hundreds of thousands rather then the 20,000+ that have already been declared.

Hopefully the end is soon and further bloodshed can be minimised..

Like i said before i can't see Syria having the domino-effect collapse without foreign intervention. I'm not buying this FSA tweets and the media coverage of the whole thing. Most important figures like generals and highest ranking officers are most of the times alawites and christians, they would hardly defect to the other side, defense minister that died 1-2 days ago was an orthodox christian.
I just wanted to state it, so others can see that Syria has a more than a decent army for the rebels, especially on the land army dept. They 've been preparing for decades for this one, they knew this day would come. Libya fell after the NATO intervention, it's all good to what the MSM are feeding us but the reality is very different imho, Syria hardly used their army so far but they started doing it in the last week after they got the OK from Russia and west are pushing hard for an intervention the same week, they know it's game over for the rebels in a month if this thing continues.

Lets hope for the best for everyone involved in the situation we truly don't need another war, world is fucked up already.
