This thread is here to share stories, give advice and just talk. Quoting: Patrick Bateman I like to hike a lot on the AT, and hope to be able to do the entire thing in a few years. This weekend however I am going kayaking with some friends for a couple of days. I enjoy hiking more, but it will be a great time. Anyone else doing any camping soon? I thought you got banned from here? This is pac fan from looney tunes He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Patrick Bateman (OP) User ID: 7756184 United States 07/19/2012 07:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I need to do that too. Lots of places around here not too far to just wade in the streams and fish. Nothing like it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20099996 Do you have any easy recipes you like for fish? I am going to do a bunch of fishing this weekend and will eat them as well, but am not going to take butter or anything with me. I have an herb garden and plan on taking some rosemarry, thyme, and maybe oregano and some aluminum foil and just putting the herbs in the fish and cooking it in aluminum foil near the fire. Any tips? |

Ryan James User ID: 16085380 Australia 07/19/2012 10:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi, I was wondering if any body had some ideas for making a target for recurve bows. I'm in Australia so its hard to get guns unless your a farmer. The gov is even close to making bows illegal. Anyway, I made on recently with carpet which was about 14 feet by 14 feet and folded it up so its four pieces of carpet thick. It works pretty well. Arrows go in about half way and are easy to pull out. The other day i missed the target (dog distracted me) and the arrow went straight through a metal fence. I thought the arrow would be broken but it was perfectly fine except that the fletchings got cut up as the arrow cut further through the fence. |

Southern OR User ID: 20471008 United States 07/27/2012 09:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The best trip I ever took was rafting and camping through the wild and scenic section of the Rogue River. 3 days and 2 nights of fun. Even got to hike up and see Zane Grey's cabin. I was amazed how many artifacts are still in place. "Well-behaved women seldom make history." —Laurel Thatcher Ulrich I am only one, but I am one. Anonymous Coward User ID: 7715788 Canada 07/30/2012 11:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We do a 5 day canoe trip through 8 lakes every year. Nice and remote. Some hard work through the portage but well worth it. I think in the last 17 years we have come across 2 groups. The fishing is outstanding and tons of fresh berries on all 8 lakes (lowers the amount of gear needed when you feast on the fresh bounty). Bears can be a little crazy sometimes but we are in the wild. Would take anyone who loves absolute pure nature through the route. Pristine wilderness at its best. |

Patrick Bateman (OP) User ID: 21207175 United States 08/05/2012 04:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Last week I spent a few days hiking this path. It was awesome! An old roommate of mine and I were planning on going, and I talked a couple of buddies into it last minute. It was a blast! Like 8 beautiful vistas, several water falls. Rock Run is one of the most gorgeous creeks in the country. I will post some pics later, but here is a link. It is a 29 mile hike(some sources say 27, others 29, I hues it depends on how many vistas you go see), moderate difficulty. I am very surprised, but we did not even see one rattle snake. I would definitely recommend it to any hikers in nearby states looking for an awesome weekend hike. We did it in 3 days, 2 nights, but it would not be difficult to do in 2 days. If you are in great shape, even 1 is possible. Only a few difficult climbs, lol, the hardest the first day. Like a mile of very steep incline. Anyways, I have to go meet some people for tennis, but I will post some pics later, it was awesome [link to www.pahikes.com] the pic on that page is the confluence of the yellow dog and rock run.. It was so beautiful! There are several nice camping spots there! [link to midatlantichikes.com] another link |

I was thinking about trying to do one on the hike I went on, but was too worried about my phone. I think I am going to try it again this fall and do it in one day, I may try it then. Those rapids looked awesome! I did some class 2 and 3 rapids with my family as a kid down int the Smokey Mountains in 96'. It was actually where they did some of the Olympic trials that year. I also did class 4 and 5 on the New River in WV as a teen, that was insane! |
