I lived in N. Cali. for a year (Humboldt County) and we often had small quakes. Everyone said there was no big EQ threat in that part of California due to the type of land, unlike in S. Cali.
But I also distinctly remember one of my geologist friends telling me all about how the Triple Junction (just offshore) was overdue to go off, and when it did it would be huge, and all of the ground we were standing on would liquify.
I'm an east coast girl who had never heard of liquifaction, and it scared the hell out of me. Not that anywhere is safe, but I'm kinda glad I don't live there anymore...
Hope it doesn't go off anytime soon.
