I've Been Baffled by The Consistently LOW Barometer Readings I'm Getting This Summer...Anyone Else Notice This???

Trust me to post this kind of a thread when EVERYONE is reading all the 'BATMAN:Black Knight Rises' threads!!!

Well,I heard that this latest Batman movie was previously,predicted to "clean up" at next year's Oscars...wonder if THAT will happen now,after tonight's massacre???...

It's 29.7 (1013 millibars) in Southern California- been like that for weeks at least.

I don't know whether that's our norm or not.

Well,it all depends on where you are in the world...I think California is on the same latitude as Southern-Mediterranean countries...so,you may also be seeing "below-the-norm" readings yourself.

Being in Southern California,and with the weather being as hot as it is there,I believe your atmospheric pressure SHOULD be more like 1018-1023 right now...that's only conjecture on my part though,I must add.

I CAN'T believe it—as if to mock this whole thread,the Met office here in Malta has forcasted an un-seasonally LOW temperature of just 29C for tomorrow,Monday,and also Tuesday...with the possiblility of RAIN!!!!!!!The kicker is,is that it almost NEVER rains here in the summer

The North Atlantic Current, the one responsible for our temperatures and Europe's weather has not been functioning properly since the BP OIL SPILL. There were some articles about it having stalled or broken up in some segiments and they were waiting to see if it would reorganize itself. There has been nothing recent regarding this and even if it has stopped working they would never say so. Somethings definetely wrong with the whole picture lately.Think about it. The big oil spill fucks up the current. Then 3 earthquakes adjust the axis and wooble of the earth. Then Japan leaks rads all over everybody. The suns scareing the shit out of everybody and their sending 2 new toys up to really watch it. The Sun and the Moon appear to have moved . The weather doesn't add up all over the world. 20 fold change in Earthquake and volcano activity. Sink Holes and Fissures. Landslides everywhere. Buildings, Bridges falling down EVERYWHERE. Tornado's where they have never been. Chunks of ice weighing a pound killing people in China. NORTH ATLANTIC CURRENT OR THE SUN OR BOTH? YES YOUR BARO"S ARE OFF WITH EVERYTHING ELSE.If you see anything relly scary happen with your instruments,PLEASE let us all know.

Well,yeah...I CLEARLY remember many scientific finds stating that the B.P. oil spill was the cause of the "stalling" of the 'Gulf Stream' and the IMMEDIATE,resulting FREEZE that enveloped ALL of USUALLY mild Britain!

Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!!!!..."they're sending up two new toys to watch the sun"!!!,I love it! Yeah,it's funny you shpuld mention that about the moon having mysteriously "shifted" on its axis—that's EXACTLY what Lieutenant Colonel S.C. told listeners to his January,2012,radio broadcast,would happen...hmmmmmn...

Yeah,I kinda' hope I get a few more friendly people like you guys bumping this post...Say,anyone else love their barometers on GLP?...

I did notice another interesting-looking thread on the forum's search page...apparently,some dude somewhere got an extremely LOW reading just as a big storm was about to hit his area;well,believe it or not,that's quite normal in some parts of the world,especially where big thunder/rain storms are a common meteriological occurance,although,admittedly,it's still quite a site to see the barometer needle go all the way down to around the 930 hPa mark.

I have to check that other post that I mentioned earlier though,about that guy's barometer giving him really LOW readings,just as a Thunder Storm was approaching his area;I wrote that "he got a reading of 930 hPa",but,I was thinking today that I may have got that wrong—barometers WILL go down to 960-955 before/during BIG storms in SOME countries,but I have a hard time believing that anyone is getting readings as low as "930 hPa",as I wrote!!!

I'll have to go and check the post out again.I'll come back with the correct reading and a link to it...

It was an interesting read,as the OP was also describing the physical effects on his health,having been under the influence of a MAJOR low pressure storm system for a WHOLE WEEK!,he was reporting from his hometown in Michigan and gave a rather in-expert reading of his barometer as being at "eight O'clock",which,if you look at a barometer's "face",will really be about 950hPa/millibars;WOW!,that kind of system just DOES NOT seem to ever reach us over here in the central Mediterranean!! Although,believe it or not,we DO get some pretty big storms for this part of the world—do a YouTube search for 'Malta Storms',and just watch what our coastlines look like during the notoriously destructive 'Eurocralies/Grigal' winds...believe me,you DON'T want to be out on the high seas!!!!

You know what dude?...I've never doen it myself,but I'm thinking,if you go up on 'E-BAY',and do a search for barometers',you'll probably find some good quality,second-hand ones—at a VERY good price too!

I got all mine from a lady I know who owns an antiques shop nearby—the sweet thing IS,is that she liked me,and let me have them for next-to-nothing!!,really good quallity ones they are too! Beautifull convex glass dial covers,solid hardwood bodies,and probably GOLD plated parts too,judging by what the inside workings look like...so glad I met HER!!!

Folks,barometers make VERY attractive decorations when placed somewhere quaint and cosy in the home,and you'll be fascinated by how accurate they can be in terms of making accurate weather predictions that you can rely on.

NOTE:I might post my CLOSELY GUARDED secrets on how to READ barometers BETTER than the so-called "experts"...

AN UPDATE ON CENTRAL-MEDITERRANEAN BAROMETER READINGS:

Hi folks!

We recently began "the rainy season" over here in the Mediterranean, and so far we've had two heavy rain storms. As you probably know, the classic Mediterranean climate is a long, dry, hot spell, which—TRADITIONALY— begins in May and ends in mid September; and then a shorter season of HEAVY rains and cooler, stormier weather—usually beginning in September/October, going till March/April.

Of course, even WE are starting to feel the effects of "global warming" (which is most probably NOT caused by the burning of "fossil fuels" btw; Stan Deyo: "Temperatures on other planets in our solar-system are getting hotter ALSO!"), with winters here seemingly becoming shorter AND drier, and summers longer and HOTTER...I really see myself moving to pastures greener one of these days!

Anyway, back to the update. So, our first (thankfully,HEAVY!) rain storm came in early September, with a rainfall of about 100-125 milimeters (4-5 inches) counted in one night. Our second rain storm came through early this week (Oct 24th), with about 50 milimeters of rain counted. Both storms were characterised by almost inceasant lightening—with quite a few reports of significant damage caused as a result.

THIS IS WHAT PUZZLES ME:

I'd been keeping an eye on my barometers, looking for tell-tale signs of impending heavy rain, which is usually a sudden swing of the barometer's thin black needle from around the 1017 milibars/hPa point, swinging anti-clockwise to the 1000 milibars/hPa point on the white, barometer clock face, usually a day-or two before the rock 'n' roll begins!—and beleive me, storms can be REALLY scary over here!. This is what you look for in order to predict a rain storm, friends!

...Yet, once again, I noticed NOTHING!!! On BOTH occasions, for some strange reason, I wasn't getting absolutely anything! BOTH storms came through and yet the barometer needles hardly moved at all

Strangely, at the point of writing this report this afternoon (Sun, Oct. 28), *chuckle* I AM now seeing the barometer needles actually moving! Beleive it or not, it they have FINALLY swung from their CONSTANT, 1017 milibars/hPa position, and are currently down all the way to 1000 milibars/hPa—and the weather is actually looking grey and overcast!!!

THIS IS A SURE SIGN OF COMING, GOOD RAIN!

I'll tell you what, friends, I'll come back on and report what happens! I'm expecting more action over here..."in the Med!".

THE FULLY-COMPREHENSIVE BAROMETER CHART: I just wanted to remind you all that I am currently writing/designing a BIG 'barometer-reader' chart. What I mean by that, is that I am going to give you all a special chart that you will be able to refer to when using your barometers at home. The chart is going to be SO detailed, and yet, so easy to follow, that I SERIOUSLY doubt that such a user-friendly barometer chart exists ANYWHERE on the internet! There MAY be one out there, but, if there IS, I don't know about it!!!!!

THE WEATHER & BAROMETER UPDATE:

It's actually kinda' funny really, because ever-since I posted this thread, the weather AND my barometer are behaving PERFECTLY normal! *GLP EFFECT STRIKES AGAIN!*

My barometer is giving me TOTALLY normal readings now, i.e. marking "WINDY"—and we then GET wind! "RAINY"— and we then also GET rain!! Basically, everything is how it should be, over here.

Maybe this was just a summer thing?

I am a deck officer on a Great Lakes 740 foot ore ship traveling between Duluth, Minnesota and Montreal Canada. We log barometric pressure every 30 minutes.

Asside from storms, I have noticed no remarkable difference at all in the last few years. 29 to 32 on average. Our barometers are calibrated regularly and all the officers on our ship have college minors in meteorology.

I don't get it. What's with the Nazi smiley?!?!?!?!?...

I joke, though, because there's nothing to smile about with respect to "Der Fuehrer's Face", is there???!!!
