Lubbock Texas emp?!
The entire city of Lubbock, TX is currently on shutdown. I was driving home when I saw a flash and semi-bright light to the east and then everything shut down....all lights, all streetlights,all...gone. The weird thing is cell towers appear to be ok, along with water service. I have called numerous friends across the city...all without electricity, but have all other services......anyone else experiencing this? Emp?!

The crazy thing is that this has been a MUCH milder summer than last year, and we had 0 blackouts. Everything is out except cell service (at least on my end....i can see 3 towers illuminated by the ambiant light in the sky that have no lights on, and one that does.

Definitely not 1 transformer. I saw a flash, but it was sustained....it flashed and stayed bright....plus, power in the entire city has been down for an hour. This is a city of 250,000+ people. No storms, no drastic heat wave...eeriely quiet.

Power is back on in some parts of the city. LP&L still has no explanation as to what caused 250,000+ people to lose power at 2am with no thunderstorm (hell, that would be very much appreciated around here) or heatwave (today's high was mid-90's...typical). Numerous accidents reported across the city, as traffic lights failed and traffic police failed to respond in time.

Re: Lubbock Texas emp?!
It's been over 24 hours since power dropped in the city. All power has been restored, but we still can not use water. The entire city is still required to boil any tap water for 2-3 minutes before using for consumption. Every restaurant in town was forced to buy bottled water or sodas for their patrons since they could not use the public water supply for tea, coffee, sodas....you name it. This was a 2-hour event that has crippled businesses and homeowners alike for 2 days. Imagine if this event had covered a larger area or lasted longer. There were reports of looting and gunshots in several areas in the city. We are not prepared for a large-scale power outage or EMP event. On the flipside, a small event like this may awaken a few people to out dependency on electricity and help them become more prepared. Thoughts?

Transformer station. Not an EMP. Electronics would be toast. All electronics.

Transformers or even multiple transformers can blow and give off a sustained amount of light. Look up the videos.

Temps have been quite high this past week in TX. Mid to upper 90s.
