-capable of assisting control civil disturbances
-handling detainees
-carrying out forensic work
-deploy/use biometrics to identify suspects
-able to assist local authorities in allied countries (notice the specification of "allied") ( securing crime scenes/building cases)
-eliminating mistakes that allow criminals back out on the streets instead of behind bars (sounds good right? who wants criminals on the street)

Well, I'm going to try to look on the bright side here. I would much rather be killed by a US Marine than by a Spetsnaz commie or a minimum wage DHS illegal alien. At least the Marine will not rape me as I die.

July 22 - U.S. prosecutors and European regulators are close to arresting individual traders and charging them with colluding to manipulate global benchmark interest rates, according to people familiar with a sweeping investigation into the rate-rigging scandal.

Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., have recently contacted lawyers representing some of the individuals under suspicion to notify them that criminal charges and arrests could be imminent, said two of those sources who asked not to be identified because the investigation is ongoing.

Defense lawyers, some of whom represent individuals under suspicion, said prosecutors have indicated they plan to begin making arrests and filing criminal charges in the next few weeks. In long-running financial investigations it is not uncommon for prosecutors to contact defense lawyers for individuals before filing charges to offer them a chance to cooperate or take a plea, these lawyer said.

The prospect of charges and arrests of individuals means that prosecutors are getting a fuller picture of how traders at major banks allegedly sought to influence the London Interbank Offered Rate, or Libor, and other global rates that underpin hundreds of trillions of dollars in assets. The criminal charges would come alongside efforts by regulators to punish major banks with fines, and could show that the alleged activity was not rampant in the banks.

Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is clearly necessary if you look at the last two engagements of the US military, viz the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. For example in Iraq they disbanded the Iraqi army and police, which means that the US armed forces had to take over the police jobs because there was nobody else to do it.

So given that it is necessary for the US military to do police jobs during and after their many invasions, doesn't it make sense for them to have some police units? Or do you expect them to draft a bunch of LAPD and NYPD officers and take them over to a war zone?

For where? 1500 would barely be able to control 1 city.
 Quoting: Patrick Bateman

You dont honestly think they would hit every city at the same time, nope, they will do what they always did, slowly, slowly,if they have too do 1 city at a time or one county at a time, they will, that would be so much easier for them and it wouldnt spook the herd too much,we would all be on here moaning about it and no one will act because of it.

SO who controls each city they take over after they move to the next? Local law enforcement?

It only makes sense for them to have "law enforcement" divisions if they intend on continuing to engage in dangerous and disingenuous actions.

So, when someone says "I'm going to continue doing something bad, and intend on expanding my operations" it forces a thinking man to question whatever bad things will eventually be involved.
