Industry, factories, processing plants...the beginning of our 'modern' age. the video says that edisons light bulbs could last as much as 1500 hours and that there was late a bulb produced by another co. that could last 2500 hours. finally it mentions a bulb that was made in shelby ohio that has been burning nonstop in a fire station in liverpool ca. since 1901. the secret of the filament died with the inventor. so no, edison's light bulbs were not forever. Yup. I posted a link to this in another thread a couple of months ago. [link to www.centennialbulb.org] |

Not anymore, they're turning to crap, A friend has had nothing but trouble with a 2010 Honda Accord. I've had a used 1998 Pontiac Firebird for over 8 years, no bad problems. Another friend has a 2002 Ford Explorer with 235,000 miles on it, it's still going strong. |

Yep, so many of Mr. Tesla's ideas or inventions were stolen and put forth by others once assembled and proclaimed as their invention. Like that thief Marconi he basically took all the guts ie transistors, diodes and what have you and pretty much Tesla's blueprint for the radio, and then claimed it as his own. So many things in the written HIStory books turn out to be complete horseshit when just a little extra digging is applied we find almost always there is more to the story. If I was Tesla, I would've punched that fat douche J.P. Morgan square in the face or at least zapped him with some FREE ENERGY. I'm done for now........ |

Right on op. just last week while I was throwing out a "broken" box fan at work, my co-worker stopped me and said he'd fix it. 10 min later the 50 plus year old fan was working... The dude sprayed it down with WD-40 and whacked it with a hammer. Try that shit today and the cheap plastic would end up in pieces... I'm still shocked the damn thing was able to turn on. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1466889 Just thought I'd share. WD-40, gum, paperclip, pocket knife = the fix everything for a little while kit. |

Sooooo true. I bought a blender a few years ago and it broke. I figured it was because I used it almost every single day and that it was just wear and tear. Then I realized my mother has been using a blender that she got in the 60s when she got married. She uses it every other day and the thing is still going strong! |

This is why capitalism is killing the planet. Profits over everything else. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18598056 Bullshit, it's because people have no values anymore that they seek profit unethically Yes, and capitalism is NOT free enterprise! Once each member of the Walton family has $5 billion, isn't it time to start paying people a living wage? Why do you need more than $5 billion? Or even $5 million? If you earn it ethically, I'm all for people getting filthy rich. But Walmart (and probably 90% of the rest of the corporations in this country) don't care about their employees. |

Dont touch with fingers when installing and no mechanical shocks to the light. Another point is that you want to avoid switching it on and off too many times. better keep it on longer because the wear comes from turning it on and off in the most part. |

Thats why I wont buy an American car anymore. They are all peices of shit, made out of plastic. Quoting: chris999 A Japanese made car will last 3 times longer. I used to work in a plant that made parts for both Dodge and Toyota. The Dodge parts were flimsy and were even allowed to leave the factory with flack (small slivers of plastic leftover after the molding process) attached. But the Toyota parts were a whole other ballgame. Sturdy, dashboard components filled with reinforcing material, ect. A rep from the company even came freq. to inspect the facility and process too. We were even asked to give more attention to those components. I think it's the whole "honor" thing in Japan that keeps companies there honest. That is why I bought a Toyota Tacoma! I had a 2007 ford mustang and I really liked that car never had any trouble with it. But I needed a truck. I bought a whirlpool fridge I've had about 18 months and the handle has fallen off and had a few problems with the freezer freezing up! The last fridge I had almost 15 years without a problem. My wife wanted a bigger fridge to lose more shit in I GUESS. Last Edited by zzbudzz on 07/23/2012 02:43 AM Banned often |

I said that American used to make the best stuff in the world, but that all changed during the Reagan era Neo-Con takeover of America... when we started outsourcing all of our manufacturing jobs in the name of profit. I agree, American muscle cars were the best vehicles ever built. I dont mean everything I say to be literal. I just like to throw around ideas, and play devil's advocate. Just yesterday I had to bake my PS3's motherboard in the oven (second time) for about 15 minute so that the solder could "reflow" underneath the GPU and CPU. Had the thing for about five years, keep it clean, sucked out the dust on the inside with a vacuum cleaner attachment monthly, but still got the YLOD (yellow light of death). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13867372 I know having the mainboard "reballed" is an option, but the point is I shouldn't have to go through all that just to keep something working that I paid a decent chunk of money for. I read that this fragile lead-free solder they're using in electronics now is causing a lot of the failures, because it becomes brittle do to temperature fluctuations. Game systems are terrible. I gave up on Xbox 360 after buying 2 that both quit within a month of purchasing brand new. Warranty was a joke they still wanted 150.00 to fix. Told my son screw Xbox, got him a Playstation 3 this Christmas and we have had to get it fixed in January. We have had 2 Playstation 2's shut down. Funny thing is, my hubby still has his Atari 600 and Nintendo. We never have problems out of those systems. |
