The diverse beauty of California should never be in question--the miles of coastline; beautiful deserts; Sierra Nevadas; San Gabriels; the Channel Islands, etc. The Golden State is no longer golden thanks to the delusional criminals in Sacramento who have been running it into the ground since the 70's and have been making it progressively worse.

One cannot paint Cally with a broad brush due to its vast size and diversity of people and geography. There are pockets of third world enclaves surrounded by multi-million dollar mansions. Coastal OC, Malibu, Coastal San Diego are still great areas if your income is commensurate with living there.

Loose immigration policies; over taxation/regulation; burdensome business climate; and too many tyrannical laws are driving people away in droves. I grew up in OC, but I left HB 4 yrs. ago because I couldn't take all the aforementioned BS any longer.

You're welcome Op. Are you living there? If so, what is your opinion on the matter? I do know that many folks were down of Californians during the real estate bubble, because so many jumped ship and brought all their equity to other nearby states, and in some cases paid cash for their new home. This drove up real estate costs in other states, as well as bitterness amongst the original residents of said state.

My opinion doesn't count I'm a South Florida guy and moved to California 2 years ago. The way I look it at is that I'm willing to put up with the high rents because I loved the nature aspect of it, South Florida is not that much cheaper as far as real state . I'm pretty accepting and open minded (not gay) of other people so the political aspect of it does not affect me.

the land itself is nice. It would be beautiful if not so full of squats, fags, reds and VC.

I live here and I personally love it! There is no place like Cali. I have done all those things you mentioned and it's truly a good time. Also there is really no where else that you can go surfing in the morning and snowboarding mid day. If you've ever been to Duke's there's a picture from the sky of the beach so beautiful and the mountains full of snow.

Yes, Op. Cally should have a N/S (running E/W) border just north of maybe Santa Barbara? When I lived there, it seemed that most NOCAL denizens couldn't stand SOCAL folks. The only thing was, most SOCAL folks who were aware of this just didn't give a fuck. All the various foreign cultures were just into their own kind/culture and were totally oblivious of this fact, however, very astute as to the methods of securing handouts...

Orange county was a perfect place 35 years ago. Did you know there were orange trees there once? Great farm community until the out of stater's kept filing in and wanting their McMansions built in the farmlands.

Cost of housing skyrocketed from 1976 till now. It displaced all of us simple natives to NorCal. The flood from the south was steady and 4 families could afford a single house. So the politicians started giving away freebies to keep themselves in office.

I laugh when I hear a liberal politician grandstanding on the environment. Back in the day the would ignore all the farmers saying too many house in such a small space was not good. So, in their great wisdom shut down all the family owned orange groves with nice new environmental laws that made it impossible to grow oranges anymore.

I am a native and I cannot stand Cali. Ya, pretty sad to say but I keep trying to vote the liberal scum out of office but the way the lib's have made the districts it is all but impossible to vote the idiots out.

I think they are still small cities passed S.F. that you might find a good fit

Im afraid to raise my kids here anymore (and I live in the boonies) but I am not even safe out here with all the home invasions and our cities are riddled with crime. Not to mention our corrupt police and politicians and if your white your the minority and discriminated against believe it or not. I could go on and on with where I live being in the top 10 in lists of bad things such as car thefts and human trafficking etc. So OP that is why people on here dont like Cali cause although some of the scenery is beautiful ...well everything else sucks!

As an Oregonian I can tell you that your premise is correct. The reason that the property prices were lower here is because they were geared toward the income level of the "natives". When the Californicators came flooding across the border, they snapped up properties left and right. Trouble was, they were a migrating lot and saw nothing wrong with living in a place for 2 or 3 years and then moving somewhere else. This usually occurred after they had dumped thousands of dollars of "improvements" into the property, which jacked up the purchase price so high that only other Californians could afford them. Additionally, all the "improvements" increased the "assessed value" of neighboring properties so that then THEIR property taxes went up, even though there was no way that they could ever have sold for what the "assessed value" was (used to be a standing joke, "Wish I COULD sell it for what the Tax man says it's worth").

The "tree-huggers" killed our timber industry to save the "spotted Owl", and while we were still reeling from THAT they proceeded to kill our fishing industry. Not content with destroying the two biggest job producers in Oregon, they then proceeded to infiltrate our Government in order to turn everything Oregonian into California Part Deux. Now we have so many rules and regulations, thanks to the "progressives" that a person can't do anything with their own property, or even develop the property for the use that it was bought for originally. There are pot-holes in the roads which would swallow a VW Beetle, but yet the openly-gay mayor of Portland (who marched in support of the OWSers until they destroyed the parks where they squatted while wreaking hundreds of thousands of dollars-worth of destruction on surrounding buildings, homes, cars, etc.) puts money into bicycle paths. The politicians in Salem and Portland have no thought for the other 80 per cent of Oregon which is NOT represented, other than to keep jacking up our taxes to support their cockamamie ideas. We used to have a pretty good school system, but they have imported a series of California school administrators who have done nothing but destroy the curriculum, close schools and cram more and more kids into the ones they have favored to stay open and stock with rubber-stamping Marxist teachers, many of whom are from California too. After a few years of screwing up the schools the Administrator moves on to be replaced with yet another Californian (as if there is no one in OREGON who could run the schools) who then proceeds to implement all sorts of new "progressive" ideas which flop, to be replaced by yet another Californian, ad infinitum.

Hell, they even brought their damned smog with them!!

So, no, Californians are not heartily welcomed when they slither their way across the border into Oregon!

Great post Eggs. Although I was born and raised there, I never looked back once I moved to the state north of you. California is a contagious diease: it is slowly infecting all neighboring states as the liberal viruses spread outward to AZ; OR; NV; ID; CO, etc. I have always been "conservative", so my set point was to always have govt. the fuck out of my life, so I apologize for all my X CA bretheren who have fucked up your state and made it on a par with KALEEFORNIA. I sold my place in CA, but am just renting now since I wouldn't dare test the RE market again. Kind regards.
