That just might be true. Maybe they are just opening ceremonies to war. September/October always seems to be the month things start happening in terms of war.

The Potter's Field is a place of destruction spoken of in the book of Jeremiah.

What were they thinking?

How interesting that a shard is a piece of broken pottery. Part of the passage in Jeremiah concerning Israel that took place at the Potters Field is as follows:

“Then break the jar while those who go with you are watching, and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I will smash this nation and this city just as this potter’s jar is smashed and cannot be repaired... "

Not that there is anything to this, but it is a strange coincidence.
