Sandusky, a former member of Paterno's coaching staff, was found guilty in June of sexually abusing 10 boys over 15 years, sometimes on campus. An investigation commissioned by the school and released July 12 found that Paterno, who died of lung cancer in January at age 85, and three other top officials at Penn State concealed accusations against Sandusky for fear of bad publicity.

None of Sandusky's known victims were older than 12 or 13 years of age.

This article written this morning gives the timeline of events.

How could you gather such retarded info? I have posted I live in NE PA so many times, and have never said anything about living in the mid west. I almost went to PSU, I have had many friends go to PSU, and yes some of them played football for them. It is a great school, and yes has some great athletics, most outside football. Drexel is a great school as well, academically speaking that is. Where do you draw these crazy conclusions from?

I am not even a PSU fan. I have only ever cheered for them if I went to watch my friends play. Bit I am not going act like they do not have great athletic programs and many top notch academic and research programs as well. And yes, I visit State College quite a bit.

OK...perfect example of playing who's the bigger victim ie: narcissist. It's shameful.

The Report says..

"Graham Spanier: Pennsylvania State University President.
The report says that the university president told the special investigative counsel that "he never heard a report from anyone that Sandusky was engaged in any sexual abuse of children" and said he would have been the first to intervene if he had known or suspected it.
But the report lays out a long email trail showing that Spanier was informed of the 1998 investigation, and told of the 2001 account brought forward by McQueary.
"By not promptly and fully advising the Board of Trustees about the 1998 and 2001 child sexual abuse allegations against Sandusky and the subsequent Grand Jury investigation of him, Spanier failed his duties as President," the report says.
The report said that "the avoidance of the consequences of bad publicity" was the most significant cause for the failure to protect child victims and report abuse to authorities.
It also faulted Spanier, describing him as "a President who discouraged discussion and dissent," and faulted "a striking lack of empathy for child abuse victims by the most senior leaders of the University."

[link to usnews.msnbc.msn.com]

The spin...
Spanier rebuts the claim in the university-sponsored report by Louis Freeh, the former FBI director, that Spanier and other officials enabled Sandusky's crimes to continue and failed to show empathy for the victims. Spanier also says that he himself was the victim of abuse as a child and would never cover up or defend such action. He doesn't specify what kind of abuse he suffered, but he has previously described being beaten by his father; his attorney said Spanier was not referring to sexual abuse.

Lawyers say they've found boy abused in Penn State shower

HARRISBURG, PA. - For months, the identity of the boy who was sexually assaulted in 2001 in a locker room shower by Jerry Sandusky was one of the biggest mysteries of the Penn State scandal. Now, a man has come forward publicly to claim he was that boy, known in court as Victim 2, and plans to sue the university.
...

"Our client has to live the rest of his life not only dealing with the effects of Sandusky's childhood sexual abuse, but also with the knowledge that many powerful adults, including those at the highest levels of Penn State, put their own interests and the interests of a child predator above their legal obligations to protect him," the lawyers said in a news release.

No worries- along with justice being served, it's important for people to understand HOW this happened in the first place.

It's hard to accept that those in charge knew it was happening and looked the other way for their own benefit over the protection of the kids.
