Wind damaging storms associated with the Derecho are heading toward Marion, IN and just north of Kokomo. Quoting: DoorBert A derecho is causing 70-mph winds across northern Indiana w/ tree branches crashing down [link to twitter.com] I can tell you that before this storm came through a couple of hours ago there was another one that came through in the early morning hours around 5am - 6am that knocked over tree after tree east of Marion and down South along SR 5 toward Upland. My husband said one yard had 7 trees down along SR 5! This was along the same path as the Derecho that came through last month! |

There was a thread about HAARP zapping over Chicago (yesterday I think). It seemed to be heating the upper atmosphere just ahead of the weather front. I considered it was to amplify the storms......maybe that is exactly what happened? |

Same here...will be interesting to watch if it starts to reall pick up. Thanks for the info! I remember mid-summer 2007 in the triangle, I was putting up a horse fence when out of no where a tidal wave of wind came and lasted about 5-8 minutes. scared the shit out of my horse (I was fine) I learned to just accept extreme weather down here! It's still better than what I grew up with coming from Buffalo, NY! -Reckless Driver |

I feel like I'm living in a Reader's Digest. I wonder what the chances would be for using an actual American word to describe the overly large, long-lasting storms instead of what amounts to be a Mexican/Spanish term. OP, you should repeat it at least a dozen more times in one post to make sure that you have it filed away in the grey matter, properly. The rest of us will have to struggle along as we are! |

I live in Fayette county WV, it has begun, not that bad. Big fat rain, currently mild winds, but did pick up a fair bit no damage. A few booms of thunder but seems like we are either in the approaching initial front of the storm, give it 30 mins to an hour and we will see if their is more in store. |
