Wind damaging storms associated with the Derecho are heading toward Marion, IN and just north of Kokomo.

A derecho is causing 70-mph winds across northern Indiana w/ tree branches crashing down

I can tell you that before this storm came through a couple of hours ago there was another one that came through in the early morning hours around 5am - 6am that knocked over tree after tree east of Marion and down South along SR 5 toward Upland. My husband said one yard had 7 trees down along SR 5! This was along the same path as the Derecho that came through last month!

There was a thread about HAARP zapping over Chicago (yesterday I think). It seemed to be heating the upper atmosphere just ahead of the weather front.

I considered it was to amplify the storms......maybe that is exactly what happened?

I remember mid-summer 2007 in the triangle, I was putting up a horse fence when out of no where a tidal wave of wind came and lasted about 5-8 minutes. scared the shit out of my horse (I was fine) tounge I learned to just accept extreme weather down here! It's still better than what I grew up with coming from Buffalo, NY!

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1569
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1242 PM CDT TUE JUL 24 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...SRN MD INTO SERN VA AND NERN NC

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 510...

VALID 241742Z - 241945Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 510
CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...ADDITIONAL STORMS MAY FORM WITHIN THE LOW PRESSURE
TROUGH...WITH DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL LIKELY.

DISCUSSION...TEMPERATURES HAVE RISEN INTO THE MID 90S F OVER VA AND
SRN MD...WHILE DEWPOINTS REMAIN IN THE LOWER 70S F. VISIBLE IMAGERY
RECENTLY INDICATES THAT STABLE WAVE CLOUDS WERE MIXING
OUT...SUGGESTING THAT CAPPING IS BEING REMOVED. FURTHER HEATING IS
LIKELY...WITH WILL ENHANCE SFC CONVERGENCE ALONG THE TROUGH AXIS.

MOST MODEL SUGGEST A SEPARATE AREA OF DEVELOPMENT WILL TAKE PLACE IN
THIS AREA BETWEEN 18-20Z. GIVEN VERY LARGE INSTABILITY AND AMPLE W
TO NWLY FLOW ALOFT...EXPLOSIVE DEVELOPMENT WOULD OCCUR WITH STORMS
QUICKLY BECOMING SEVERE WITH LARGE HAIL...THEN MERGING INTO SEWD
MOVING CLUSTERS PRODUCING DAMAGING WIND...WITH SOME SIGNIFICANT
GUSTS POSSIBLE.

IF TCU BEGIN TO FORM IN THESE AREAS AS PREDICTED BY SEVERAL HIGH
RESOLUTION MODELS...THE WATCH MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED TO INCLUDE THE
REST OF SERN VA AND FAR NERN NC.

I feel like I'm living in a Reader's Digest. I wonder what the chances would be for using an actual American word to describe the overly large, long-lasting storms instead of what amounts to be a Mexican/Spanish term. OP, you should repeat it at least a dozen more times in one post to make sure that you have it filed away in the grey matter, properly. The rest of us will have to struggle along as we are!

I live in Fayette county WV, it has begun, not that bad. Big fat rain, currently mild winds, but did pick up a fair bit no damage. A few booms of thunder but seems like we are either in the approaching initial front of the storm, give it 30 mins to an hour and we will see if their is more in store.seal
